compared to bmw's of the past, their new cars ARE 4x4s!

Default BMW 4-Series Convertible Test Drive Discovers it has a Few Drawbacks

The BMW 4-Series Convertible is a drop top of our times, a reflection of what posh buyers think they want from a car with no roof: a nice badge that everybody knows and their bald patch highlighted by the sun. You wouldn’t really want to buy one if you were into driving and wanted to get most out of your investment, performance-wise.

It obviously faces the same problems as all other folding hardtop convertibles, and as Carbuyer’s Mat Watson discovers on his drive of the car, the difference in practicality between it and the regular coupe makes it hard to recommend. The roof mechanism, when folded up, impedes on cargo capacity in the boot (a lot) and when it’s deployed, it limits rear headroom to the point where only shorter people would not find it uncomfortable.

Then there’s the extra weight it has to carry around which turns it into a different handling animal to the coupe.

You must really want a 4-Series and wind-in-your-hair both at the same in order to buy it over the coupe or some other convertibles that are out there for around the same money.

Looks soooo much better in black. I can't stand that 'fender cut' on the 4-Series. Once you get to borrow it make sure to give us a review please

Default Liberty Walk fattens up BMW 4-Series Coupe with wide body kit

Click here to view more photos

Costs 13,500 USD

Japanese aftermarket specialist Liberty Walk is previewing a wide body kit for the BMW 4-Series Coupe.

Time really flies as BMW revealed the 4-Series Coupe more than a year ago and now it has gained a massive body kit courtesy of Liberty Walk. The overly aggressive body includes significantly wider wheel arches with visible rivets providing a racecar-like appearance. Sending out a bit of a DTM carvibe, the package also includes different front and rear bumpers along with over fenders.

Other items on the list include a huge front splitter with aero blades on the sides, a ducktail spoiler, beefy side skirts, bespoke sports exhaust system and very wide tires together with a lowered ride height.

The whole kit costs 13,500 USD but Liberty Walk is also offering these pieces individually, such as the front bumper for 3,780 USD, the rear one for 2,700 USD and the trunk-mounted spoiler for 2,160 USD.

Default BMW M4 Coupe laps the Nordschleife in 7:52 - report

13 seconds faster than the M3 Coupe

The BMW M4 Coupe is lighter and faster than its predecessor, so it comes as little surprise that the model recently beat the Nürburgring lap time of the M3 Coupe.

During a test by Sport Auto, the car was able to lap the Nordschleife in 7 minutes and 52 seconds. This is a 13 seconds faster than its predecessor.

As we have previously reported, the M4 Coupe has a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo six-cylinder engine that develops 431 PS (317 kW) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in as little as 4.1 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) or 280 km/h (174 mph) when equipped with the M Driver's Package.

I borrowed my brother's 435i M Sport about two weeks ago for a few days. I enjoyed my time with it. Would have loved to have kept it a few more days.

He had it ordered since he wanted a six speed manual. I miss driving a stick from time to time and for people who's driven a manual understand.

Sitting in the car I like the M Sport logo on the steering wheel, brake calipers as well on the rims. The gauges and buttons on the center stack are the typical BMW. My brother got a crème leather interior and kinda regrets it because it'll get dirty quick. He shoulda got a darker interior. A big thumbs up on the head up display. Love how important info. can be displayed at the bottom of the interior windshield. To start the car you have to push down on the clutch, hold it and the push start button. I wish Lexus had a manual on some of their cars.

As for the exterior it's damn sexy and my neighbors love the style of the 4 Series. If I was a BMW man I'd rock the 435i or M4. I mentioned to my brother he shoulda got the M4 but couldn't wait. He's happy with his 435i M sport and that's what counts. Opening and locking the 435i is similar to Lexus. There's no need to push a button on the key fob to unlock the car. His 2012 A7 you have to take out the key fob to push a button to unlock the car.

Surprised the 435i has only 300hp. The IS 350 and I'm sure the RC 350 has 306 hp. Driving the 435i is fun, exciting, responsive and with the 300hp has ample power. I love shifting and punching it throughout the gears. Once you start up the car there's an excellent exhaust note and once it warms up it quiets down significantly. The ride is smooth and not too rough, kinda reminds me of the ride on my CT 200h with the exception of the horsepower. I've driven the 3IS numerous times and I have to say the 3IS is smoother but one can't compare the 3IS with the 435i. A true comparison will be the RC 350 and the 435i. Once the RC 350 comes out I'll definitely spend some time in it.

Overall I like the 435i M sport. Once the RC 350 comes out I'd like to make comparisons then.

Enjoy the pictures...

Congrats to your brother, great review! I agree the 4 series looks incredible. They outdid themselves with the styling.

Default First BMW M4 Wedges Itself Between Two Trees in Native Bavaria

Strong acceleration, followed by heavy tire squeal was what witnesses say they heard just before this brand new BMW M4, finished in white, was driven head-on into a tree, taking its shape and wedging itself in-between it and another…

It happened in the southern part of Munich, and by the looks of it, the Bimmer was for all intents and purposes totaled.

It’s not really that hard to gauge what happened here: the 20-year-old driver ran out of talent and experience at the exact moment the road went one way which he was unable to follow… Luckily, nobody was seriously injured and we got to see just how well one of these new M4s performs in a head-on crash situation with a solid, stationary object – it does pretty well.

The moral here is simple: don’t, if you’re not sure you can handle it, drive a fast sports car quickly on the road, let alone in a crowded urban center like Munich. The driver here was lucky there were no people standing between him and the trees…

Default New Alpina B4 Bi-Turbo Coupe and Convertible from £58,950 in the UK, Pricier Than M4

Which 4-Series model is more expensive, less zany in looks, rarer and at least on paper, potentially faster than the M4? Why the Alpina B4 Bi-Turbo, of course. Set to make its UK launch at next week's Goodwood Festival of Speed, the B4 is available as a Coupe for £58,950 or as a hardtop convertible for £62,950.

This means Alpina's B4 Bi-Turbo Coupe is £2,300 more expensive than the new M4 Coupe (£56,650) with the Convertible carrying a £2,205 premium over the drop-top M4 (£60,745).

While based on the 435i, Alpina says a team of 50 development engineers worked with specialist suppliers to "enhance the engine, gearbox, cooling system, body structure, wheels, tyres, aerodynamics, steering, suspension and interior".

In the B4, the revised 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight six produces 404hp (410PS) and 600 Nm (442 lb-ft) of torque, up from the 435i's 306PS (302hp) and 400Nm (295 lb-ft).

The Coupe shoots to 100 km/h(62 mph) from zero in 4.2 seconds and has a top speed of 305 km/h (190 mph), with the Convertible doing the same in 4.5 sec and topping out at 301km/h (187mph). In comparison, the M4 Coupe hits 100km/h in 4.3 seconds with a manual gearbox and in 4.1 seconds with the dual-clutch transmission, with both reaching an electronically limited top-speed of 250km/h (155mph).

While not available in right-hand drive markets, the Alpina B4 Bi-Turbo Coupe with all-wheel drive (xDrive ) is even faster hitting 100km/h in four seconds flat.

Speaking about the new B4, Alpina GB sales manager Matthew Stripling said:

"ALPINA customers value the finely-honed feel of a bespoke car and the easily accessible performance that comes with substantial torque available at almost any engine speed. We are not trying to compete with cars that must also perform well on a track. An ALPINA is often described as ‘the best performance car for the real world’ and that’s something we are very proud of."

In the UK, the B4 has a long list of standard features that include, an eight-speed automatic gearbox, Adaptive M Sport Suspension, leather upholstery, electrically adjustable heated sports seats, climate control, Bi-Xenon headlights, aero kit and 20-inch wheels.

Furthermore, Alpina offers all other BMW options, including those from its Individual program.
