Would you allow advertisements on your infotainment system?

As consumers find new ways to avoid commercials and advertisements, companies are constantly trying to find new ways of marketing to them. Other than radio commercials, it's hard to think of a way for ads to show up in our cars, but Reuters is reporting that General Motors is considering selling ads show inside its in-car infotainment systems.

In the article, GM CEO Dan Akerson talked about the possibility of in-car ads with the example being a "brought to you by Alltstate" message showing up on the infotainment screen. Of course, this doesn't even begin to factor in what sort of ads we'll start seeing in GM cars once it launches its widespread 4G LTE Internet access for most vehicles starting with the 2015 model year.

Oh hell no. I don't care what automaker it is, it could even be Lexus and I swear I'd never buy another product from them as long as I live. NO to in car advertisements on my infotainment system.

IMO there would need to be some benefit to On Star (or other systems) consumers/subscribers such as lower subscription costs. Seems doubtful though.

No. That's like saying if you want your house repainted, they will paint ads onto your walls.

This is the dumbest idea ever. If this really gets implemented, I hope GM truly dies

They need to fire Dan Akerson. This guy has absolutely no automotive experience, to even suggest such nonsense as this is heresy IMO. GM's job is to make/sell cars, they aren't google.

If we aren't distracted enough in our cars as it is, the last thing we need is somebody having to think about pushing a button to turn off an annoying ad that pops up on the screen.

Honestly, give me free SiriusXM and live weather/traffic and I'd take a 30 second ad when starting the car

No, nein, nyet! I try to minimize exposure to unwanted and particularly moronic commercial influences. What few TV shows I watch are recorded and "time shifted" to permit FF past the extraneous. Live shows are best enjoyed with the controller and a finger near the mute button.

My auto is a tomb of separation and talk-shows are enjoyed for the stimulation and exposure to different views, but the volume is lowered once the commercials start. I even loathe many of the SiriusXM music stations for the incessant blather of the "audio jockeys." (I enjoy some of the content during the new-vehicle intro period)

Hell no. The only way I wouldn't mind seeing ads is if the navigation came at no extra charge in exchange.

One of the worst ideas to come along in a long time. But I bet it will happen in some shape or form. It's just a matter of time before we are bombarded absolutely every waking second by media and companies trying to make money. That's how pathetic and money-oriented our society has become.

If something like this does pass, we should get a money % mailed to us every month.
