Mercedes V12 engine safe for at least five or six years - Ola Källenius, CEO of AMG

Long live AMG V12 BITURBO engines (especially the M279 AMG engine)
and to hell with excessive and non-sensical emission and fuel economy regulations
:
There's been a lot of speculation about the future of V12 engines, but AMG CEO Ola Källenius has confirmed the powerplant will stick around for at least five or six years.
Speaking to Edmunds, Källenius said the company's recent upgrades to the V12 engine have ensured it will be "absolutely safe for years to come." However, he seemed to suggest it could become increasingly difficult to justify the engine in the future.
Despite previous denials about hybrid variants, Källenius confirmed they are inevitable due to increasingly stringent fuel economy and emission standards. As he explained, "Hybrid is going to be in the future of even sports cars." However, he said the company isn't in a rush to offer a hybrid because there a still a lot of improvements that can be made to conventional AMG engines. In the end, Källenius said "We will do the hybrid when the market is ready for it and in markets due to their regulations."
While the executive acknowledged that AMG hybrids are coming, he flatly dismissed diesel variants. Källenius contends that diesel engines will never be able to deliver AMG's trademark sound and aggressiveness.

Hehe sorry if I over-reacted.
It's just that the eco-terrorists and over-acting government regulations nag and complain like there's no tomorrow. It's as if they consider any internal-combustion vehicle with eight cylinders or more as EVIL.
As I've said before, if for example a future version of the M5 only comes with a puny four-cylinder engine, then you definitely know who to blame for such madness and stupidity.
Yup the same organizations that have forced Formula 1 to go from V10->V8 and now some puny four cylinder turbo engine

Audi doesn't seem to have this issue. It has been kicking **** with their V12 TDI since '09 in their Q7, and since everyone is chasing Audi at this point, why not extend the life of the v12 by offering a diesel variant stateside?
"The V12 generates 368 kW (500 hp) of power and 1,000 Nm (757.56 lb-ft) of torque from six liters of displacement...On average, it requires just 11.9 liters of fuel per 100 km (19.77 mpg)... the subtle engine sound takes on a voluminous, strong note when the throttle is open"

AUDI Q7 6.0 V12 TDI 6AT (500 HP) (2009 - Present)
Cylinders: V12
Displacement: 5934 cm3
Fuel: Diesel
Fuel System: Direct Injection
Gross Weight 7720 lbs OR 3502 kg
Power
368 KW @ 3750 RPM
500 HP @ 3750 RPM
493 BHP @ 3750 RPM
Torque
738 lb-ft @ 1750-3250 RPM
1000 Nm @ 1750-3250 RPM
Fuel consumption
City 15.8 mpg US OR 14.9 L/100Km
Highway 25.3 mpg US OR 9.3 L/100Km
Combined 20.8 mpg US OR 11.3 L/100Km
Transmission
Drive Type All Wheel Drive
Gearbox
6-speed, Automatic
2013 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG
Engine Type: 6.0L V12
Weight: 5082 lbs
Fuel Type: Gas
Direct Injection: No
Power: 621 hp @ 4800 rpm
Torque: 738 lb-ft @ 2000-4000 rpm
Highway Fuel Economy: 19 mpg
City Fuel Economy: 12 mpg
Rear Wheel Drive
Transmission: 5-Speed Automatic
Considering that the Q7 gives up almost 2700lbs to the S65 as well as the additional parasitic losses of AWD over RWD, a comparable V12 diesel in the current S65 chassis would OUTPERFORM their current gasoline V12 in every area except raw horsepower. However I'm sure that this would be forgiven a with the boost in overall performance, and fuel economy(which would help the company as a whole, as it is unlikely the target audience gives a damn about fuel economy). And this is based on 5-6 year old tech. So how is his argument of hybrid > diesel valid again??

Really sad.
Hence, why I blame extreme eco-terrorist mentality for this. They've 'infiltrated' the way governments think and have brainwashed several politicians and lawmakers by spreading their propaganda.........
Sigh.......
With that said, I really wished that Greepeace and its members would become a dying breed

With turbos and S/Cs they make V-8s and V-10s super powerful, The S63/65 make the same power as a V-12 S 600.
Its not just V-12s, Lexus sold less than 100 V-8 hybrid LS 600h L's last year.

a v12 has a unique sound and responsiveness over other engines, just like no v6 every really replaces a v8, except on paper. however, with so many advances in all engines, a v12 is certainly a luxury only few will appreciate and want (and can afford).

they're not related. the ls600 is a truly amazing feat of engineering but a relatively tiny trunk in a huge car, not amazing power for such a heavy vehicle, make it only appealing to few people. if money were no object though, i'd have one, as a great QUIET cruiser.
