Hyundai sketches out HND-9 luxury sports coupe concept
#46
Question is though, what is Hyundai doing or what do they want for the brand? Funny, we've been seeing additions like Equus, Genesis, Genesis Coupe, revised Azera and the talk of Hyundai is that it is not a luxury brand. Has Hyundai ever come out and said what they are trying to accomplish? Has anyone asked what these moves mean for the brand? Is it a dream of progression from basement to penthouse or is it a simple exercise in offering a car at many price points for the consumer?

A mule for the 2016 Hyundai Genesis Coupe has been spied undergoing cold weather testing in Scandinavia.
While there isn't much to see, the prototype has a modified front fascia and a longer wheelbase.
Hyundai has been tight-lipped about the model but previous reports have suggested the car will move upmarket and draw inspiration from the HND-9 concept that debuted at the 2013 Seoul Motor Show.
Engine options remain unconfirmed but could include a 3.8-liter V6 and a 5.0-liter V8 engine that develops approximately 420 bhp (313 kW) and 383 lb-ft (518 Nm) of torque.

The front axle appears shifted forward in this mule indicating an increase in wheelbase of a few inches. The current Genesis already rides on a 111.0 in wheelbase larger than that of all the compact cars minus the Q50 and new C-Class. Also the 6-Series rides on a 112.4 in wheelbase so it will be very interesting to see how Hyundai positions the Genesis coupe. Personally the next Genesis Coupe should remain a 4-Series/A5 competitor.
