I've never liked the exterior design of the Equus and still don't. I remember how one of them looked like a dead ringer for the 1998-2000 LS400 about 12 years ago. It's a good bargain for moderately affluent people in developing countries, who can't afford imported and overtaxed flagships like the A8, 7-Series, LS, S-Class, & XJ-Series. Other than mimicking the gearshift design of BMW, they've done a decent job on removing some of the cheaper looking elements of the previous model. Resembles the K9 interior a lot more.
it looked very nice on the street, but too bad it has zero originality. no excuses for a company this big still couldn't come up with their own designs.
Looks like a BMW shifter because it's probably from the same supplier.
I highly doubt major buyers like BMW allow their parts to be copied for other automakers without strict permission and I highly doubt BMW let Hyundai take a shifter right out of the box.
What is ridiculous is a shifter EXACTLY like BMW and headlights EXACTLY like the LS. That is just crazy to me.
They steal (and I mean steal not "are inspired by") whatever design cues they like from legitimate premium brands.
The headlights are shameful. The shifter is stolen out of a BMW. They liked the rear seat arm rest in an Audi so they stole that:
The door panel ribbing and arm rest design is Mercedes:
So you're sitting in your Equus with L-finesse exterior, Lexus LS headlights, BMW shifter, Mercedes door panels, and Audi arm rests. And this in 2013 from a large multinational car company trying to get respect and legitimacy.
