Default New Lexus HS 250h Coming to Japan

Japanese blog 昔の名前で出ています has posted images of an updated Lexus HS 250h set to launch in Japan by the end of the month — here’s a shot from the rear:

While much of the HS remains unchanged, the new spindle grille is attractive and surprisingly effective in changing the overall look of the hybrid sedan — also revealed was the updated interior:

Overall, this is a drastic improvement for a model that had a hard time fitting into the Lexus lineup — however, after the HS was pulled from North American dealerships earlier this year, it’s unlikely to be offered outside of Japan any time soon.

Nice. However, ES 300h > HS 250h and then there will be IS 300h. Good move by Lexus to remove the HS here.

I didn't mind the HS, the more the merrier I say. But I wish Lexus wouldn't have priced it so high. It would probably sold better if it was priced in the same range as the CT.

Still looks too much like a Corolla.

I think Lexus should have kept the HS, but offer a cheaper non-hybrid version. That would fill the gap against the completion, the Acura ILX and Buick Verano.

I think the price was way too high for the silhouette of the Corolla.

Yes true, but the CT is a hatchback. I think they still need a small sedan to take on cars like the ILX, Verano, and A3.

I believe Infiniti is also thinking about a small sedan as well.

You nailed it.

There is no way I would buy a HSh over a ESh if they are the same price. The ES feels like a Camry while the HS feels like a Corolla.

Wow I wish that grill had been on the HS while it was here. It's what I wish the new ESs front looks like. I HATE that the grill and hood don't line up. Utterly bleh IMO

front end is a drastic improvement. Actually looks attractive. The rear and the interior on the other hand is still blah

That thing will be an electric car based on the Nissan Leaf FYI.

The HS is not that small, about 185 inches long. The ILX is a pos that is civc based and no acura has the tech of the HS. The Verano is ILX competiton, both loaded are not the price of the 2012 HS base. The A3 is a CT competitor. Your post shows the continued confusion about the HS as Lexus didn't do its usual great job with it. It wasn't Corolla based and it wasn't cheap. There was even a sportier "Touring" version that I don't think got any series magazine review and it seems impossible to find.

What was mind blowing was the price of the HS, it was around 37k base in 2012 and 48k loaded. Ours has a MSRP over 45k, it was not a bargain but it does have a lot of tech not available in any car at this price range.

Looks, a high price and a 3rd sedan in the same price range as the IS/ES killed it. As some have said maybe a coupe would have worked.

That is one aggresive front end for a car with 185hp

Japan though seems to love the HS as it was the top selling Lexus there. It is my belief now that Lexus rushed it over to stop some sales bleeding until they got back on their feet. I just don't see how having 3 sedans 35k-50k would work.
