Try as they might, the Germans are still one-up on them in the powertrain department.

While it does matter to me, I really don't know if many people shopping in this class know or care much about horsepower. As long as it moves with authority when the accelerator is slammed to the floor, I just don't get the sense that 0-60 and 1/4 mile is a huge selling point here.

Whem you are a flagship, you need to have bragging rights. 0-60 is important.

I think it falls into two camps. One where the buyer is buying the car for practicality ie a business man or family man who needs what a full size RWD V8 sedan offers, and the other is for those focused on status. The bigger, better, faster mentality ie S63 AMG over a S550.

wrong. a flagship typically is something that looks good when you pull up to the valet.

the ultimate type of flagship like a rolls royce describes its power output as "adequate" - one of my fave understatements of all time.

What do you drive again? Exactly, we don't know.

So again, the LS is the only one to offer a V-8 and V-8 hybrid only. The LS does not offer
1. FWD like the A8
2. I-4 like the A8
3. 6 cylinder like the S/7/A8

Yet the LS is frowned upon by you? lol

Of course they offer

V-8
V-10
V-12

Which clearly helps their image. Lexus is moving finally into that realm with F-sport and hopefully a real F model in the future. They are low volume and really for bragging rights and rarity, owners don't race them or track them. They are wonderful status cars.

The refeshed LS is just that and we should applaud their efforts to improve it and not having the fate of the Q45 for example.

on topic, i am glad i owned the ls460l back in 2007, not sure if i can afford any of these flagships these days

600hl starting price 119k!!!!!!! granted it has a lot of stuff standard, but i think a loaded one would be 125 to 130k?

I have a 750, and the 400hp is too much for 90% of my driving, well, it's nice to know it's there when I need it, but do I floor my car? Not really. And I hate the MPG on the TT motor.

I am kind of interested in the new LS, a white LS460 with saddle leather + black wood sounds really good! The powertrain + 8 speed is good, the only thing is I don't know how long this 4.5LS will offered in the market till the brand new next gen will come. 2-3 yrs?

130k+, as executive seating, advanced safety packages are optional... probably few more things... a lot of standard stuff, but not everything :-).

besides, 120k doesnt buy me GS 450h F-Sport here :-).

And an A8 or S-class doesn't look good when you pull up to the valet?

You can thank the yen for that. I'd rather they build a top notch car and price it accordingly, rather than cheapen the thing and say "look, we lowered the price".

I wish Toyota would do the same for the Camry.

My thoughts as well. Toyota has always developed some nice shades of blue. What's the name of that color? Looks too bright to be Deep Sea Mica.
