Here's an unexpected headline: "Jaguar Land Rover to Hire More Than 1,100 Workers at UK Plant."

With the British auto industry all but left for dead when we were still in short pants and both Jaguar and Land Rover mired in irrelevance for most of the past two decades, the notion that these guys might someday make a successful go of it has always seemed akin to world peace – a nice idea but unlikely to ever happen. So kudos to the management at Tata for doing what neither the former Ford overlords nor the British themselves could.

The Dow Jones Newswires report says JLR will be hiring the new workers to build the XF Sportbrake (pictured) later this year at its Castle Bromwich assembly plant. The company has already added some 1,000 manufacturing jobs at another English plant to support a 19-percent sales increase through the first half of the year. JLR told Dow Jones that a third of its total workforce, some 8,000 people, have been hired in the past two years.

If that doesn't say business is booming, what does?

Good point...But whatever happened to "estate"? I always liked how folks across the pond referred to them as that. Had a classy ring to it.

sort brake/ shooting brake my ***. Its a station wagon people. Just because its fast dont try to make something its not. No matter what you call it, you are driving a wagon just like a 40 year old women with kids would drive. I hate these BS marketing tricks.

Wagons should be making a comeback, all the kids who rode in them are about the age where they could be designing, building them etc, but with a performance edge, I know I saw an E60 wagon a couple years ago, but just one, I'd buy a wagon, your car suddenly has more versatility

Yeah, I agree. In the case of the A6 for instance, the station wagon version looks better than the sedan ALWAYS.

I too would love to drive and own a really nice-looking station wagon
