Talking The kind of car your dad would have driven if he hadn't had you..Acura ILX ad..

This is so laughable on so many levels I find it hard to believe this isn't a photoshopped pic. While reading C&D I saw this full page ad and was completely dumbfounded. Took a pic, here it is.

I think I will call/text my pops to see what he says to ensure more hilarity...

So of course I googled around, its not just me...everyone thinks this ad is beyond terrible.

Horrible ad but I have seen a couple in person and I actually think it looks very good. At it's base price point it is also good but once you add a couple options it makes no sense to buy one.

Oh, and if I didn't have kids I would be driving something a heck of a lot better than that especially since these little guys cost me about $22k a year in daycare/preschool alone.

My dad found this ad insulting.

Not because it implies that I may not have ever existed, but because it implies that Acura has any tout on his automotive expertise...

I'm already annoyed by the lame Honda helpful commercials and their "honda-wannabe" comment that they keep mentioning.

This ad is just another

This ad is just one more example of the silliness of ads from many different car manufacturers...not necessarily just from Acura. Many (if not most) of those ads are an insult to one's intelligence.

Mike, you may not agree, but I've seen even worse manufacturer car-ads than this. Classic examples are the infamous Paul Hogan ads slamming Subarus over rocks/boulders in high-speed off-road desert condtions like they were Ford Raptors, Pontiac Montana minivan ads depicting them as Cowboy/ranch vehicles, and the Subaru XT ads of the 1980s where dad tells his son to go buy a Subaru, then doesn't believe he actually buys a Subie it when the son does some aggressive-driving and then brings home an XT. Worst of all (perhaps) were the old Cadillac "Standard of the World" ads long after they had, in fact, ceased to be the world's standard, and were producing unreliable, poorly-made junk.

This car is too practical and conservative to be "the car for childless young adults", but then again I don't speak for the majority of drivers. The car is tasteful and attractive, but in a restrained and conservative way. Upwardly mobile? Sure. Dashing and showy for "before you have kids"? Hardly.

The CTS-V Coupe ad is also a little over the top in praising the interior (one of the current CTS's weaker points), although this ILX ad is just plain weird in its inaccuracy.

Wouldn't a car you would have had prior to kids be a 2 seater or more sporty?
