Default Blame it on the gas pedal (again)

[Quote]http://greenwoodphinney.komonews.com...new-restaurant

The wife of a Greenwood restaurant owner crashed into her family’s recently opened Korean restaurant this morning, due to what the husband believes was a vehicle malfunction.

Kalbi Grill Express owner Tony Lee, who also works as an auto mechanic at Tony’s Greenwood Auto Body next door, told KOMO 4’s John Strand that he was standing next to the 2009 Lexus RX350 that his wife was driving when the engine revved so high he thought it would explode.

Lee said the vehicle then lurched forward and accelerated, crashing through the restaurant doors. He says his wife stomped on the brakes, but the vehicle wouldn’t stop until his daughter, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, turned off the car.

Toyota did issue a recall on the 2010 Lexus RX 350 this week, to fix "an unsecured or incompatible driver's floor mat" that could trap the accelerator pedal and cause unintended acceleration, according to Consumer Reports. In the past couple years, Toyota has recalled vehicles due to unintended acceleration.

Two people were inside the newly-opened restaurant, located at North 82nd Street and Greenwood Avenue North, but were not injured because they were in the kitchen, Lee told KOMO 4.

Neither Lee’s wife nor daughter was injured in the crash.

The Seattle Police Department is investigating the incident, but Lee says he’s refusing to have the SUV towed to a dealer for computer diagnosis until he has all parties present to check the SUV’s computer.

He says he believes the crash was caused by Toyota’s spontaneous acceleration problem.[Quote]

so "he was standing next to the car when engine revved so it would explode and then it lurched forward"?

Are they suggesting the car shifted into D by itself and then overpowered brakes to go into the restaurant?

After going through the whole recall fiasco with an '07 ES350, and following things very closely, I question any of these claims until proven otherwise. Until then I smell a scam.

So, he is refusing computer diagnosis until someone has done a computer diagnosis.

I would be willing to bet that the driver was talking to her husband and without realizing the car moved or lurched and she stomped down on the brake which happened to be the gas pedal, end of story, it happens all the time, why they have to lie and say unintended acceleration

I'm gonna say this is user error too. Sounds like something happened in a moment of panic that led to this car ending up inside the restaurant like that.
