2013 Jaguar XJ replaces 5.0L V8 with supercharged V6
Jaguar has announced a few updates for the 2013 XJ, the most significant of which is the availability of an all-new supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine. The six-cylinder is good for 335 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque and is bolted to a new eight-speed automatic gearbox with a start-stop function. All told, the changes should help the big four-door yield a 14 percent improvement in fuel economy over the old naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 and its six-speed transmission.
While no Environmental Protection Agency numbers have been released as of yet, our quick math indicates the 2013 XJ could crank out 18 miles per gallon city, 26 mpg highway and 21 mpg combined. That fuel economy does come with a price, however. The delicious 5.0-liter V8 currently serves up 50 more horsepower and 49 more lb-ft of torque compared to the new force-fed six.
In addition to the drivetrain changes, Jaguar reworked the spring and damper rates for better on-road comfort, and a new 825 Meridian sound system is also part of the mix

it was definitely going to be FI
the only question i had was turbo or supercharged
F-type is going to get this for sure
i think this is much needed for the XJ
i seriously wouldnt mind getting one now
335 horsepower and 331 ft.lbs is very usable for 4000lbs car that is all aluminum
this car does understeer a bit but thats to be expected with such length, size, suspension setup
but overall that would be a very good everyday luxury car!

Jaguar isn't completely eliminating the V8 for the XJ. Just the base model with the NA V8 is being replaced by the V6 S/C. The S/C V8s are still offered. I love mine and no way I would settle for *only* 335 HP

Sad to see it get downgraded. My aunt has a XJL and for a car that size, the 5.0 v8 is a beast. Absolutely effortless power-plant with torque everywhere and easy roll-on power. No lag from the transmission. Its gotta be .2-.3 sec faster 0-60 then my IS350 (I'm guessing its a 0-60 in the 5.2 range). Even at 1,500 rpm its got ample pull as if its a turbo-charged engine.

Jaguar hasn't offered a 4-cylinder engine since 1948 and no V-6 since the small, lackluster X-Type was pulled from the United States 4 years ago. But in an era of mpg obsession, even this proud British luxury brand is changing its spots.
Jaguar will offer 4- and 6-cylinder engines in two of its 3 car lines starting this fall.
"We have only V-8s in a market that has moved to 6-cylinder," said Andy Goss, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover North America.
A 2.0-liter, 240-hp turbocharged 4-cylinder from the Range Rover Evoque will be available on the XF sedan, the 4-door that competes with the BMW 5 series, Cadillac STS and Mercedes-Benz E350.
A supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 in 2 variants -- 340 hp and 380 hp -- will be offered on the XF and the larger XJ sedan. The V-6 is based on the 5.0-liter V-8, now the only engine Jaguar offers on U.S. cars.
Goss said the V-6 in particular will be a game changer for Jaguar. About 70% of cars in the segment in which the XF competes are sold with V-6 engines, he said.
"With the V-8, we are fishing in a small pond," he said.
Both new engines will be teamed with an 8-speed automatic transmission, replacing a 6-speed automatic. Fuel economy ratings won't be available until August.
The new engines and transmissions won't be available on the XK convertible and coupe.
