I'm not sure I understand your question or the purpose of this thread. If your car is (or will be) registered, in your name, in GA, then you don't have a choice.......you must get GA plates. Of course, you can choose from among those available (sometimes at extra cost), if the GA DMV offers different designs like they do here in VA.

Biggest problem with these new plates and the color schemes the state are going with is the color of the car they are going on fortunately Im able to keep my original old NY plate that is not burnt/rust orange

Hands down the best looking plates are vintage black plates, like these CA plates from '63-'69:
As far as recent plates, these black Pennsylvania D.A.R.E. plates from '05 were sweet looking:
If CA allows black plates to be reissued, I would pay extra for them:

Yup. I think I made a thread about it too. Lame GA decides to hold a contest where some lady that hates cars draws a picture of some rolling hills I was unaware of here and some grass and now we have one ugly ****ing plate. I am not putting that POS on my car(s).
Then GA in its infinite wisdom decides if you don't want it you can get the plain plate but it must say "In God We Trust" on it, mind you seemingly no one in office actually follows the Bible.
So then that leaves us that want other options to pay an additional fee every year to get a "special plate" so we have a less ugly one. For example the GS 430 has the one with the Eagle on it while the GS 450h has a plain plate.
To Gov. Deals credit after March 2013 we no longer have the ridiculous "birthday tax" where we pay a tag fee based on the cars value. So if you are a Lexus driver or expensive car driver you get a nice "FFFFFF UUUUUUUUUUUUUU" bill. So thank you Gov. Deal.
Please see above Mike.
have to get a new plate for my car and the new Georgia license plate is so busy and ugly imo. ive noticed many states are going to very artsy and busy designs. whats wrong with simple? i think tennessee is also one of the worst. the best? californias simple design. at least we dont have to sport that ugly plate on the front of our cars in georgia.

As far as the ad velorem tax, yes in 2013 it will go away. If you purchased a car this year, you will also be able to opt out of paying ad velorem beginning in 2013. Any car purchased before 2012, you're still stuck paying the yearly car property tax. The down side is, in 2013, we have to start paying the tax on private party car sales.

I with the others in saying the new orange ny plays are hideous. I'm planning on keeping my blue and white NY pats as long as i can. The best NY plates were the white ones with the red statue of liberty in the middle. Similar to the colors of California plates. Very simple and elegant.
