Another guy here at work is on the opposite end, leasing a 335i for $950 a month

More news on the M7, sounds BS though, sounds like someone's prediction from educated guesses. The name M770i sounds unlikely and they got the power and torque rating of the current 760i completely wrong. But if is true, 475 hp and 4200 lbs give it about the same power to weight ratio as the current AMG S63.

Although the V12 powered 760Li offers more power with its 570hp and 900Nm (665lb-ft) of torque, the M770i will provide more ‘sheer driving pleasure’ due to the extensive use of carbon fiber. The roof, trunk and hood will be made of this lightweight material. The four sports seats will shed some weight as well, just as carbon-ceramic brakes, a thin-wall exhaust with four tailpipes, and twenty-inch hollow-spoke wheels. The total amount of weight saved will be about 200kg or 450 pounds.

My wife hating driving, so she never drives. But she is older than 18 years!

I heard that news too, which is crazy! A Dinan 7 is 495hp! A M7 needs at least 560Hp which is how much M5 makes, and even then, I don't think it's enough for BMW's first M-powered 7. Come on, in this price range, it's all about bragging right!

it's going to be a very tough sell at that kind of power. sorry, but at this segment, most buyers are in for bragging rights. with less than 500hp, yes power to weight ratio is good, but how many pay attention to that.

and no, sorry, i don't consider it m7

I hate driving too, well mostly hate commuting in boring cars. I still love driving a Ferrari down the PCH

Yes bragging right is very important, but the future direction is power to weight ratio, engine power will pretty much stay the same from now on and curb weight will come down as they add carbon fiber to mainstream cars. They have to bring up the efficiency. Is good though, that means they will drive fantastic

It make sense, it is the only direction to go, engine power is max out now that all top luxury car are pushing 600 hp, but weight is huge, all are pushing 5~6k lbs. So if power stay at 500~600 lbs and weight come back down to 3~4k lbs..........wow. A future M5 will perform like today's MP4-12C!!

I agreed with you, but those buyers are car idiots.

Of course that won't be a real M7. Then again, we can also argue that the F10 M5 is not a real M5.

Ok I searched more about the possible M770Xi, I hope it will be a diesel model as the new M550D, X5D ( About 381 HP ). If the 495HP is from a diesel engine with 600+ Lb tq, then we are talking!

Yes a turbo diesel powerband is ideal for a full size daily driver luxury sedan, I found this out after I test drove a few Bentley Arnages, that ultra low rpm totally relax feel with huge effortless torque is best for a comfy serene couch. I laughed out loud when I felt the 600 lb-ft at 2500 rpm, it is awesome The new Mulsanne is 750 lb-ft at 1800 rpm, OMG!!

The only issue with the diesel is still, as good as modern diesel sounds, it still got a little of that old crappy diesel ticking sounds to it. As little as it is, it still sounds crappy and unrefined

Check out the Mulsanne's torque curve, it is hilarious, that's what you call "pulling like a freight train"!!

sorry but as long as it doesn't say m7 in the back, then it's not. as much as i don't like f10 m5, it has the freaking badge

yeah a lot of car buyers are idiots anyway, but then like it or not they make up most of the market. you can like all you want, but what sells is the key. with so much talk about a less than 500hp gsf won't really sell well against m5 and e63, it's hard to make a good case why a less than 500hp "m7" will sell well against s63. but then again, i think that's why they label it as 770i, without the m badge it might just be their ticket to get away

agreed, i love tq, it makes daily driving a lot more enjoyable. but just like you said, something with the diesel sounds so unrefined. we have a few diesel (mainly gl) in my community, every time they pass by, it's like a truck

And it can't rev high! That takes a little fun out of it.

Revving is for the weekend high strung spider when I want excitement, I want that to rev to 9k rpm.

For my serene daily couch though, I want the peak torque occurred at the lowest possible rpm, less rpm = more relax. Bentley got it and your 750i is the same way. I never rev my LS430 anymore then 3k rpm when I am trying to relax in my daily grind.

Haha, true, I hardly rev to 3k rpm for normal driving or even highway on ramp. I have only redline it once and 130 mph comes so quick I hardly enjoyed it.
