Default 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA FEP Spy Shots

The upcoming Mercedes-Benz CLA 4-door coupe has shed its thick disguise as it gets closer to production. The CLA looks very much like the CSC Concept Coupe unveiled last month in Beijing. Look for the production model in the fall at the Paris Motor Show, with online press releases likely in August.

Mercedes-Benz recently launched new generations of its A Class and B Class models overseas, and in the near future we’re going to see this small car family expand with even more offerings.

One of these is going to be a four-door coupe similar to the current CLS Class, albeit on a considerably smaller scale and with standard front-wheel or optional all-wheel drive configurations.

This new model was previously thought to be called the BLS, then the CLC and now the CLA Class.

It’s on track to go on sale next year here in the U.S. as a 2014 model, and we already have a good idea as to what expect thanks to the unveiling of the Concept Style Coupe at the recent 2012 Beijing Auto Show.

These latest spy shots also reveal much more detail than we’ve ever seen before, confirming that Mercedes’ design team will be staying true to the lines of the sexy Concept Style Coupe.

Under the new sheet metal is a version of Mercedes' new front-wheel drive platform, code-named MFA (Mercedes Frontwheel Architecture). This new platform is flexible enough to spawn a variety of models including hatchbacks, coupes and even a crossover, and it will offer the option of all-wheel drive. This latter configuration is almost certain to feature in a high-performance AMG version of the new CLA Class.

Hybrid and electric drivetrains, as well as a possible hydrogen-powered fuel cell unit, will also be fitted to this platform in the near future.

As for the standard engine offerings, expect a selection of turbocharged units, both gasoline and diesel, as well as the choice of a conventional manual transmission or a dual-clutch automatic. Power outputs should range from 109 to 211 horsepower. The AMG version will deliver more than 300 horsepower, however.

Wow! It's so easy for me to look at this and quickly think, Altima, with those wheels, LOL.

Cute. A 350hp AMG version would be nice. I'm just curious if it'll step on its brother C-Classes toes

yeah I dunno, I think they'd be better off starting from scratch. I'm down for a smaller more affordable CLS, but I don't find the CLA aesthetically pleasing at all

Ohh no, I changed my mind after seeing the side and rear. This is car is just as ugly as the new BMW 1 series, or even worse. I will choose the standard C class over this! The concept was waayyyy much better!
