would a supra be a good investment?

Like tittle say I have a opportunity to own a 95, 5 speed gte sigle turbo aem, clean tittle low owners supra I always wanted one and now I could get one.A lil about the car its a 95 ,5 speed upgraded clutch gte single turbo aem and alot more upgrades, the frame of the car has about 150000 miles but the engine and tranny around 30000 miles ,he has all the papper work and receipts for every thing. Theres over $15000 of upgrades on the car he is asking $27000,but I could get it for $20000 cash.its clean tittle and new isf peral paint my question is do yal think it would be investment to get it and hold it for a couple years im not going broke buying it but it hurts lol.so im going look at tomm and see.I have a 99 sc that im ganna.keep as a daily so I dont rack up miles ect what should I do???

Buy it for 20k sell the sc.

Cars generally aren't a good investment.. you'll never get what you paid/put into it back. But hell yeah if I had 20k laying around to drop on another car I'd grab a supra! :D

As a Supra owner, I say pass on this one and keep looking. You can do better for just a little more, like 22-24k, and you will want to keep it because you will love it. However, if you do sell it, the Supra is a good choice because it retains its value well.

If you want a Supra, you should be looking for a stock or BPU 6-speed Supra turbo. Don't buy this one on impulse just cuz of the name. Do your research. That car was heavily modded, and likely abused. If it's a 5-speed, it means it was originally an NA engine. Stock twin turbo supras were either 6-speed or auto. That 5-speed is weak and will not hold up to big power numbers like the 6-speeds.

Post pics when you check it out. Why is the seller willing to drop the price 7000? That alone is fishy to me.

Sick Supra.

I know a CL member selling a pristine Red/Beige with 30k miles or so....

I wouldn't call it an investment hah. More like if you want a supra then get one

Wanna trade supra for sc and ill put cash on top?:p

BenStoked 04-22-12 09:23 PM

95=mkiv
mkiv 5-speed=w58 (not good with mod list).
mkiv tt=6-speed (not what you said).

find out which trans is really in there, then plan accordingly. If it's a w58, Idfc who says itt'll be fine, it won't be, and you'll be replacing it soon.
now, if it's an r154, then it'll be fine, just be aware you're dealing with a non-stock transmission for that car.

Like everyone else said, what you are getting most likely is a NA supra, which is no better than a SC. For the money, you could find a TT if you look hard enough. It is not really a investment since the hype is already declining, but you probably won't lose much money after driving it for couple years. Hell, I had a chance to buy a 95 tt supra with 80 k miles for 10k 10 years ago, before the FF movie came out and the price gone up like crazy. But I ended up bought my first SC for 12k instead since I thought Lexus > toyota, what a mistake! Well, that's how I fall in love with Lexus,so no regret. :)

I would pass on the car and go for one with less mods. Also if its a 5 speed it was a NA Supra that they added a turbo to. I would look for one with less mods and hopefully the original motor. I'm sure looking for a stock Supra is probably like trying to find a stock EVO. Not likely

No, it's not a good investment.

Insurance alone to keep it is gonna cost you, what, I'm guesstimating $1200 a year? You're 22 years old, right? A performance coupe, even though it's old, is not gonna be cheap to insure. Add maintenance and depreciation, and you're looking at a bigger loss.

Do you have debt? You can spend your $20k on it so you don't pay interest charges. College loans? Credit cards?

Just sayin'...
