Savage Rivale gets out of our dreams and into a car
What the world needs now is love, sweet love. That's what The Carpenters would tell you, anyway – but we beg to differ. What the world needs now, in our opinion, is four-door convertibles. Because while many have experimented with the idea in recent years, and built them many decades ago, there just aren't any on the market these days.
That's where Savage Rivale comes in. Rather than take the parade-car approach, this Dutch project is more like a four-door supercar roadster. On acid. The initial Roadyacht GTS version packs the 7.0-liter V8 from the Corvette Z06 tuned to the tune of 600 horsepower and a four-seat cabin that's more similar in approach to that of a speedboats, but is accessed by some of the most imaginative doors we've ever seen and covered by a giant retractable hard-top.
It sounds strange, we know, but it makes a lot more sense once you see the video after the jump. What makes less sense is the plans to make a GTR version limited to track use that reportedly aims to take the Nürburgring lap record for four-doors, but after first reporting on the upstart nearly three years ago, we'll wait a little while longer to see how this plays out.

I'm really curious how the folding hard top will work. Didn't see any pics vids of that in action.
In the promo video, he's driving around with the top up...then, the next moment, the top is down and he's picking up chicks.

You wouldn't expect something called the Roadyacht to weigh as little as 1,030 kilos (2,270 pounds), but that's the curb weight that niche Dutch automaker Savage Rivale is claiming for its new GTR racing model. Couple that with between 700 and 800 horsepower, and what started out as a boulevard cruiser is shaping up as a serious performance machine.
That boulevard cruiser, as you may recall, is the Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS, a four-door exotic hardtop convertible, which in roadgoing spec is already pegged to pack 600 horsepower from its Chevrolet Corvette Z06-sourced 7.0-liter V8.
The GTR packs an extra one or two hundred horses (this time from a turbocharged 6.2-liter V8), and while its creators were initially hoping to claim the Nürburgring lap record for four-doors, that the racing model has just two doors – and makes no such claim – leaves us wondering where the plans changed.
The finished product is set to make the mid-April trip from The Hague to Monte Carlo for the Top Marques Monaco show, after which no more than 69 examples will be made available at €141,250 (before taxes, or roughly $185k) – which is significantly less than the €257,000 sticker price originally forecasted for the street version (around $335k).
