Question Mercedes CLK 98-03

Anyone have any experience with these? I have been reading over the reviews, looking mainly at reliability, and i have seen nothing terrible about them, seem to be pretty solid actually. If i could get any input that wuld be great. Im tossing around the idea of getting one, but this would be my first mercedes, i know this is a Lexus forum, but i figured i'd ask. I'm looking for a 320 coupe most likely. Thanks in advance.

Im tossing around the idea of one of these, an 03-05 v8 4runner, 01-05 gs430, or a q45 or m45, but i am not sure whether or not i can deal with the oil burning

I'll try to pm him, as to getting something newer, if i like this car, i don't see whats wrong with buying a clean low mileage one. Unlike most who buy these older mercedes, lexus, bmw, i'm not buying it for the name, its just a car i like. Hence me willing to spend the premium to get one, which is still only 13 grand haha, not bad

I wouldn't even think about buying an older Mercedes, or any German car for that matter. They simply are to expensive to maintain, and they tend to not be reliable.

The 4 Runner is a beast. They are built rock solid.

I use to frequent the mbworld forums a lot and I notice that w208 were fairly reliable. It wasn't until the w209, or from 2002-2006 that reliability in mercedes sank like a rock.

However saying that, its still a 14 year old car: reliability will be shaky no matter what. I would consider 13 grand a lot for a "hobby" car, but if you have a solid, reliable DD (Lexus ) then it should be fine

I'd be getting the newest w208 possible with low mileage. I have been looking and for the most part, they seem pretty solid. You also get quit a lot of car for your money, i have considered the 4 runner, but i am not sure if i want to get an SUV or not

I have a friend with an 01 CLK55 beater with 250k miles that's been to hell and back. He's driven onto job sites (dirt roads) where he had to pour dirt out of the air filter, yet he has had no significant engine troubles. It's been solid as a rock. Problems have been few - some electrical, particularly the screen on the dash which is a common failure. I would get the AMG version if possible - those engines were supposed to be hand built (although it would seem impossible given the numbers that have sold). I have seen no other AMG that has been beat like his, so I give that car props.

My uncle leased that model CLK430 back in the day. He had no significant complaints about the car.

They are pretty solid, but i would want a 4runner. I would buy one and just mod it like crazy.
