Thank you LexBob. The ATS is roomier in the rear than the previous IS. Fact of the matter is, Cadillac shouldn't have benchmarked the E46/E90 THAT closely when they knew good and well the segment was moving towards bigger back seats.

I don't know how rear legroom is calculated, but I've had my 2IS for 7 years, and when I test drove the ATS, there's no way there was more room back there than my car.

I've sat in the back of both (behind the front seat that was adjusted for my driving position) and there has to be. The ATS rear leg room is almost exactly that of my old BMW 330i and feels it. The IS felt significantly more cramped, and the numbers back that up.

Can a car have more "legroom" but less room in the footwell? Again, I'm not sure of the measuring points, but I'm focusing more on the space from the back of the front seat, to the edge of the rear seat cushion -- not the rear seat back.

Default Cadillac ATS-L spied completely undisguised

Has a 2875mm wheelbase

A camo-free prototype of the Cadillac ATS-L was spied recently in China, ahead of a local market launch programmed in the following months.

It was only last week when we saw the long wheelbase China-only ATS in a spy shot and now the car has returned without its camouflage. The main difference is in the 100mm stretched wheelbase which now stands at 2875mm and will provide more legroom for those sitting on the rear seats. It has also received an updated front fascia with more extensive chrome use for the grille surroundings.

Set to go up against other cars in this segment such as the BMW 3Li, Mercedes-Benz C-Class L and Audi A4L, the Cadillac ATS-L is going to be manufactured in China by the Shanghai-GM joint venture and will have a starting price of approximately 270,000 yuan (43,300 USD) once it goes on sale in the second half of 2014.

The ATS, like its big-brother CTS, has a fair amount of German engineering in it. One has to remember that most of the auto industry these days is truly global.

There's a high degree of subjectiveness here, though. I drove the ATS and A4 in back to back weeks. Frankly, I thought the ATS felt better, especially the acceleration--of course, the Caddy sales rep took me on the typical 4-right turns test drive, which I normally wouldn't stand for, except that I was more interested in the Visa card than jumping into buying a new car.

ATS reviews pretty consistently say that it is strong competition for the 3-Series (especially in light of the consistent viewpoint that the current 3-Series took a step backwards as a driver's car).

Personally, I think that Caddy's biggest obstacle isn't the product, which I think is strong--I think it's the perception of the Caddy nameplate that's still out there. CL subscribers are aware that Caddy has made huge strides in making sporty cars that appeal better to younger drivers--but the vast majority of the population has no clue...

More like three thugs sitting in a new metalic red one with yellow vogue tires, smoking weed and blasting bass in my Vons parking lot the other day. This is the core Cadillac clientel in Los Angeles.

Default Cadillac ATS-V Coupe spied for the first time [video]

Could be introduce sometime next year

The crew over at The Fast Lane Car has managed to catch the Cadillac ATS-V Coupe on video.

Set to replace the outgoing CTS-V Coupe, the ATS-V Coupe is heavily camouflaged but adopts a revised grille that mimics the one used on CTS-V prototypes. The model has also been equipped with a four-tailpipe exhaust system which hints there's something special under the hood.

Speaking of the latter, there's been a lot of speculation about what will power the ATS-V. Nothing is official but reports have indicated it could use either a twin-turbo 3.2-liter V6 or a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6. The performance figures are also murky as reports have indicated outputs ranging from 380 bhp (283 kW) to more than 500 bhp (373 kW).

Default New 2015 Cadillac ATS Coupe Starts from $38,990* in the US

When the all-new ATS Coupe reaches Cadillac showrooms across the States at the end of summer, it will start from $38,990, including a $995 destination charge (*), for the base version fitted with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four that makes 272hp and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque.

There's also a 3.6-liter V6 producing 321hp and 373 Nm (275 lb-ft) of peak torque, but GM did not release pricing today. The two engines come with a standard six-speed automatic gearbox, but the 2.0 Turbo can be had with a six-speed manual as well. Buyers will also have a choice of rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

The ATS Coupe 2.0 Turbo costs $2,045 more than the equivalent version of the ATS sedan ($36,945 with destination), not taking into account a $1,500 Cash Back offer that's currently available for the 2014MY.

In regards to the competition, the new ATS Coupe's starting price undercuts all of its German rivals, including the Audi A5 Coupe that has a 220hp 2.0-liter turbo ($39,000 excluding destination), the BMW 428i Coupe with a 240hp 2.0L turbo ($41,425 with destination), and Mercedes' C250 Coupe that gets a 201hp 1.8L turbo ($39,125 with destination).
