Motorweek: The Scion tC base radio is better than LX570 stereo? WTF?
I really like cars and listening to podcasts and shows while driving. I like autoblog podcast, coast to coast AM, and the Motor Week podcasts.
Today I download a number of podcasts from motorweek. The car they are reviewing was the 2011 Scion tC. The reviewer claims that the Scion base radio is an improved version of the upgraded unit found in the Lexus LX570.
Seriously? This is not possible, the Scion radio is a Pioneer unit that looks added on, has 200 watts and 8 speakers. The LX on the other hand has a ML system with a hard drive, we don't need to get into that.
You can hear it for yourself from the #38 podcast from 25/08/2010.
WTF? Terrible journalism. Terrible.

I know and sometimes talk with Motorweek's John Davis (casually, not as close friends or colleagues), but, even without listening to a tC stereo myself, I may have to agree with some of the other posters and question his judgement on this one.
I reviewed a 2011 Scion tC a little over a year ago, and the base-model car I reviewed didn't have a stereo at all (and not much else inside the car, IMO, was impressive either). The 2011 tC specs (and brochure), at the time, listed a factory stereo as standard in the base car, but dealerships often remove it from cars on the lot because so many tC buyers install higher-powered aftermarket units.

people i personally know who have good ears and are into audio, i have yet to see one impressed about the GS ML system. in fact they all pick IS ML system over GS ML. forget about the LS and LX, they are at a totally different level

The sound was so disappointing.
The ML does sound much better in a IS.My buddy Koz here has ML in his special order IS350.
The sound is very good.
The ML in my son in law's former LS460L was fantastic.Haven't really listened to the ML in my daughter's '10 LX570.I guess I'll have to and see how it sounds.
My son in law hasn't mentioned anything which is odd because he always said the LS ML was great.

I wanted ML is a '08 GS and there were no GS350's with ML in my area so I bought a GS without listened to the system. My dealer found ML GS out of state in my color combo.

for the lx, imho the ls sounds a bit better, but the lx setup is still pretty darn impressive. i wonder if it has something to do with the space
