Maserati retiring Kubang concept ahead of production debut at 2014 Detroit show
Say goodbye to the Maserati Kubang, and say hello to...well, we don't know what it'll be called yet, but we'll be seeing it come January 2014.
According to Automotive News Europe, Maserati will unveil the production version of its SUV – complete with a new name – at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, a little over a year and a half from now. In the meantime, however, the Kubang concept (pictured above) that previews its form will be put into retirement.
This after the concept has made the rounds on the international circuit including the Frankfurt Motor Show (where it was first unveiled back in September), in Dubai (where it was shown to a large portion of its target market), at the Detroit Auto Show (near where it will be built alongside the Jeep Grand Cherokee on which it is based, with engines shipped in from Italy) and at the Beijing Motor Show, where it is currently on display for what is reportedly the last time.

The high end luxary SUV markets keeps getting more competitors with the Lambo coming... I think its a good thing options are always good. We all know how much us North Americans love our SUVS that we never take off road.

Maserati Levante SUV Production Starting In 2015
Maserati’s upcoming SUV, the Levante, will enter production in 2015 at the Mirafiori plant located in Turin, Italy, which is owned by Maserati’s parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and has the capacity to build up to 300,000 cars per year. The information was revealed by FCA boss Sergio Marchionne during an interview with Reuters.
Confirmed to share a platform with the Jeep Grand Cherokee originally, Maserati boss Harald Wester recently said that this was no longer the case. Instead, it’s likely Maserati will use a modified version of the platform underpinning its Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans. This way, Maserati will be able to employ its own Q4 all-wheel-drive system which is already offered in both the Ghibli and Quattroporte.
As for engines, expect the same turbocharged V-6 and V-8 gasoline units found in the Ghibli and Quattroporte to make their way into the Levante. The most powerful model should match the 523-horsepower rating of the most powerful Quattroporte. Overseas, expect a diesel too.

I have a feeling we're about to see an explosion of Luxury Sport Utes in higher price brackets. Maserati Levante and Jaguar CX-17 are close, and Bentley, Rolls and Lamborghini all want one too

That's nice to keep it more "in house". But that's not to say the JGC was a bad choice, as that shares bones with the MBZ ML.

If so, then I hope that Maserati would finalize the platform for Right Hand Drive markets as well.
I say that because Q4 models of the Ghilbi and Quattroporte are only for LHD versions.
You don't want to leave RHD markets out for this one.
In short:
Maserati, don't do a 'Mercedes Benz' on this one.....

So they'll stick with their in-house Q4 All Wheel Drive system then?
If so, then I hope that Maserati would finalize the platform for Right Hand Drive markets as well.
