Bonneville Salt Flats Speed Week 2011
Hey guys. Currently I'm in Utah at Bonneville salt flats racing my old boss' car.
Yesterday we arrived at the track around 2:30pm and set up shot. Today we passed tech inspection and I did the driver bailout. Tomorrow we run our first time of the week.
Safety gear requirements:
-Impact Super Sport SA2005 helmet with Hans anchors
-Hans carbon fiber neck restraint
-Impact balaclava(head sock)
-fire suit
-Impact arm restraints
-Impact driving shoes
-Impact 5 point harness
-DJ Safety full door net
Did the vehicle bailout in 5 seconds
Our car:
1966 Saab (9-6) Monte Carlo 850
3 cylinder
2 stroke
750cc
14.5:1 compression
94hp...stock is 56hp
Mikuni 38mm snowmobile carbs
electric fuel pump
electric water pump
electric fan with automatic thermostat
Electromotive XDI electronic ignition system
individual coil-per-cylinder ignition
Apexi water temp gauge
Apexi EGT gauge
AEM UEGO gauge
Carbon fiber air intake box. originally made for a US Formula 3 4 cyl engine. that series and engine is obsolete. A couple of spare air boxes were cut up and made to fit a 3 cylinder engine
Thanks to Ilia at A&L Autobody for modifying the airbox for us.
our car:
There is a hot rod car show every night at the casinos. I took some pictures last night and today. Stay tuned for more.
So far the fastest "car" of the week is a streamliner in the 390mph range
I have all my pictures in the photobucket. If you like/want any of them full size let me know and I can email you.

1953 hudson flat head supercharged
one of the "Hudson Boys cars"...181CID 4 cyl engine, eaton supercharger. 118mph record.
guys from France. its a Renault F4. turbocharged making 280hp doing about 160mph
just a cool picture
suzuki gsxr-1300 hayabusa engine with a large t3/t4 turbo. produces 580hp. ran 220-ish mph
mazda miata in a 2000cc class. makes about 280hp at 9500rpm. sponsored by Harvey Siegel, owner of VIR, Virginia International Raceway. That team is staying in my hotel and I met Harvey today in the lobby.
Reg Cook from New Zealand brought out this Nissan NX2000. it has a naturally aspirated sr20de with sr20ve head. all variable valve timing components removed. this engine produces more power than then IES British Touring Car Championship BTCC Primera. IES claimed their engine to make 325hp. it actually only makes 275hp. Reg Cook's engine produces 300hp at 8900rpm. He broke previous record of 158mph by going 170mph. Today he was trying for 175mph. amaxing sounding car

WE DID IT!!!
Tuesday we tried our best to run the new motor only to get a best speed of 99.979mph and shortly after lost a motor due to low battery voltage, ignition system going goofy, leaning out the engine, and losing all compression on cyl3.
Installed the backup motor in 2 hours, added a second inline fuel pump, cut front spring by 1.5 inch to reduce frontal area.
First run yest ran a 104.041mph on a 103.996mph record. Second run did a 105.551mph. That qualified us for the record. Today in the morning we backed up our run with a 109.554mph, giving us an average speed of 107.2xx for a new record.
We were not satisfied. We out again and ran a 111.048mph. Tomorrow morning we need to back up our record first thing in the morning and pack up and go. If everything goes well, we will set a new record of 108.5xx over the old 103.996mph.
Today we had a top exit speed of 111.558mph.
GREAT SUCCESS!!!
Next year we are running the J-PRO(750cc production class) and J-GALT(750cc Gas Altered aka allowed spoilers and diffusers). current record in J-GALT class is 106.4xxmph so we already beat that too technically.
If we lower the car another 2" and add spoilers we can do 115mph range i think
