Lamborghini teases new "super sports car" for Frankfurt
Lamborghini has begun sending out invitations this week for the debut of its new "super sports car" at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show next month. While the Italian automaker has a number of projects in development, this "super sports car" is most likely a production version of the Sesto Elemento concept that debuted last year at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.
We had already heard that if the Sesto Elemento were to reach production, it would be for track use only. The invitation sent out this week says "Lamborghini. Racing Towards Frankfurt," which suggests that the car debuting in Frankfurt also has a track connection. Put the two together and we suspect we'll be seeing the Sesto Elemento again in Germany next month, this time without the word 'concept' attached to its name.

Jaguar bringing sports car concept to Frankfurt
Auto show season seems to arrive earlier each year. We're not yet fully into the swing of said season, but the rumors are starting to swirl about who is bring what to where. One of the first on our 2011 travel calendar is the Frankfurt Motor Show, whose media days fall in mid-September. Jaguar will be there, and it seems it's bringing a sporty new concept along as well.
According to Automotive News, representatives for Jaguar remain mum on the details, but rumor has it that the cat-faced car company is prepping a sports car to slot under the XK. Along with the XF wagon, we're pretty excited to see the British automaker add more Leaping Cats to its lineup.
Perhaps a smaller sports coupe could signal the modern-day return of the E-type? We can only hope as we continue to celebrate that model's 50th birthday.

Ford teases new concept car among other Frankfurt debuts
We're inching ever closer to the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, and automakers are beginning to tease us with the wares they'll have on display in Germany. Ford has announced that the company will show off a new "major new design concept" as well more details of a hopped-up version of the Focus. The reveals will take place on the manufacturer's largest-ever Frankfurt display stand. At 34,444 square-feet indoors, visitors may need their own personal guides to shepherd them through Blue Oval's new products. Outside, Ford is also featuring a test drive track laid out on over 30,000 square feet of parking lot.
What can we expect from the design concept and the performance Focus? Details are slim at the moment. It could be the rumored coupe model, and there's always a chance that we'll learn more specs on the forthcoming Focus ST, though there's really no telling at this juncture. All in, we hear that Ford will unveil four new vehicles at the show.

Me too.
I'm just hoping it's an ACTUAL sports car...
Not what many companies have done lately with announcements like "We've built an all-new sports car! But, it's a sports car for the 21st century...a sports car for today's changing times. A sports car with 4 doors, that seats 4 full sized adults, and has an advanced front-wheel drive system that virtually eliminates torque steer from the 120 combined-horsepower hybrid drivetrain!"
That ain't a sports car...that's a Camry. Nothing wrong with Camry's...they're just not sports cars.
It needs be loud, obnoxious, outrageous looking, fuel INefficient, and fast as ****!

Maserati to unveil Grand Cherokee-based SUV in Frankfurt
Maserati to unveil Grand Cherokee-based SUV in Frankfurt
It's go time over at the Modena headquarters of Maserati. The automaker itself set the ambitious target of doubling its sales figures, but its corporate overlord Sergio Marchionne wants the brand to increase their sales tenfold. That's ambitious and then some, and in order to get there, the Trident marque is going to need some new product.
Fortunately, Maserati has just such plans in store. And we already know a bit about all of 'em. The Quattroporte will be replaced by two new sedans – one smaller and one larger than the current model – while a new SUV is set to join the lineup for the first time. What we didn't know is that the sport-ute is set, according to reports, for unveiling at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
The vehicle, based on the latest Jeep Grand Cherokee, will likely debut in concept form at first. So it might be a while before we find out whether it will carry Maserati's own V8 engine or something from the Chrysler parts bin, but we should have a good idea of what we're looking at when the concept is unveiled next week. Stay tuned.

^^ This is probably the closest thing to a Ferrari SUV we'll see, though who knows what the future holds. That said, this Maserati Ute could be the beginning of more higher end SUVs like the Aston Martin Lagonda. I'd be curious how the Maserati SUV stacks against the benchmark sports SUV Porsche Cayenne

Land Rover Defender concept expected in Frankfurt
Land Rover Defender concept expected in Frankfurt
The British are invading Germany. Not with tanks or planes, but with a new Land Rover Defender concept that is set to make its debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Land Rover reportedly believes its time to make an important decision regarding the future of the Defender, and that means a new model will be developed or the tough SUV will be dropped from the lineup.
Land Rover and Indian-owners Tata understand that the Defender is an iconic member of the family, but they also realize the Defender has come to a cross roads in its life cycle. The current iteration will meet European emissions regulations through 2016, but that doesn't mean the current vehicle will sell the way Land Rover needs it to, as the target sales figure is between 60,000 and 80,000 units annually.
Regardless of their indecision, Land Rover is set to bring a concept version to Frankfurt. Perhaps this move is to gauge media and consumer interest in an all-new Defender. We say bring it Stateside, and let the U.S. car buying public help chip into that annual sales goal.
