OP, I really think you should get a manual. Your going all out getting a 2 seater convertible, might as well complete the package and get a stick. It'll be the perfect chance to learn stick. IMO driving a manual is a skill all real men should know.

The manuals in the miatas and the MR2 are easy peasy to drive. You can learn in 20 minutes and be on the way.

Miata is an especially pleasant manual, but I've never driven one older than the current NC models so don't know if it's different now.

You laugh, but my dad had an '86 lebaron turbo that is still legally on the road and passing inspection, at almost 400k miles. It's been driven every year for the past 25 years.

I've also considered a Lexus SC430, but I don't think I want to get another V8 gas-guzzler. I just might reconsider and get one, if the price is right.
I had a 08 Z Grand Touring for a few months before it got totaled. They are decent on gas, pretty reliable and fast. However, the ride is kind of rough and the trunk is way too shallow. The clutch has more travel than the average car but its easy to get used to. The tranny is really good, I find it hard to miss a gear. I only had a problem with some of the stitching on the leather coming loose. I recommend a 05 or up. But man how are you on the market for a 2 seat vert but you dont know how to drive a stick. You better get to learning.

Well, there are convertibles that are automatic, but I guess going manual completes the package.

What about porsches?

I'm gonna look for some toyotas now.

Absolutely red is a great color, though.

Autotrader lists a private seller 18 miles from that dealer with a 2005 with 31k miles for just over $10k.

here's a black '02 with half the miles for $9k. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

Be prepared to pay alot for maintenance on an older Porsche Boxster. Your requirement for it being automatic is really limiting your choices. Your missing out on alot of good cars....

Ah, I ignored the automatic requirement. A manual is way cheaper to own on an older car.

2009-10 Pontiac G6 hardtop convertible. They look sharp, and with the 3.5 litre, will hold it's own against either a 350 or S2k.

Why in the world has nobody mentioned a C5 Corvette. They had A4 autos. Also, can be had for 15k or under..not all of them, but some of them.

I did not own one, but reviewed one, and followed the 350Z's reliability record and owner-complaints.

A number of 350Zs of that era had serious suspension/wheel-alighment issues, which wore out tires prematurely and created a lot of extra road-noise. The interiors, though nicely-retro in styling, also had a lot of poor quality plastic trim/hardware which borke or fell off. The 350Z was designed and built during a time whan Nissan was seriously cost-cutting on their designs to stave off bankrupcy.....and it showed.

The 370Z, so far (which I also reviewed), has been a major improvement in many ways, but is probably out of your price-range, and the engine seems to run a little warm from its tight underhood fit, with little air-circulation around it.
