IS-F at Skip Barber High Performance Driving School
I'm just getting back from the Skip Barber High Performance Driving School that features the IS-F among other cars such as the Lotus Evora,Porsche Cayman & 911,BMW M-3 and the Mazda RX-8. In one day we got to do autocross, skid pad, braking, lane toss and race around the track.
I was most impressed with the M-3 as hitting 120 in the straight was not a problem. I drove the IS-F in the lane toss and was quite impressed also with its handling. It seems the traction control light kept coming on for some reason
.
My head is still spinning from going around in circles in the RX-8 on the skid pad. Our instructor Bob was quite calm and was able to keep up a normal conversation with me as we were spinning around doing 360's and telling me that keeping my foot on the gas was not going to solve my problems
The Lotus was the most dangerous as it was the only car without VSC and I could feel it want to swap ends in the autocross. In the same token it could be one of the fastest around the tight track in the hands of a professional.
There was little warning when you exceeded it's threshhold while the other cars gave plenty of notice.
I was disapointed in the Caymen as I struggled to keep up with the pack in the straights but was able to make up some time in the corners. Could it be the almost 150 horse power disadvantage
The 911 was toast before I could get to drive it
Overall it was similar to the AMG Driving Academy that I did at Lime Rock 2 years ago. I would highly recommend.
Here are some pics: Let me know if you want more or have any questions.

Since I signed up with Skip Barber when I did the AMG Driving Academy I was able to get it at half off as a last minute deal so it cost me $1,050 + insurance + pictures. I get E-mails for last minute deals if they do not fill a class. Normally it is the Friday before the various events.
Next time I think I either want to do it at Leguna Seca in Calf. or do the F-1 open wheel cars. I also get E-mails from a place out in Utah that you get in race prepared mustangs. 10 laps around their track, a road course, + 2 hot laps with an instructor driving is $317. They have other programs as well.
