The '12 Camry a no show at the NY Car Show
At least that's what I read on another forum.
You would think Toyota would have made some kind of announcement. The car was said to make it's debut at the show. Maybe Toyota didn't want to showcase the Camry a day after another 330K vehicle recall.Earthquake issue.... In any case some kind of statement should have been made. I'm disappointed because I'm going to the show Monday and was really looking forward to seeing the new Camry. |
I never heard of the 2012 Camry debuting as a redesigned/reengineered car. The model year 2012 will start selling later this summer. The Camry was redesigned in 2007, and if it follows a 6-year cycle, it would be redesigned for 2013.
The model year 2013 Camry should debut early 2012. At best, it may debut in late 2011 for sale in early 2012. |

On ToyotaNation there are several KY factory workers, and Camry production preparation has already been in works for months already (and Rav4 is starting in Canada).
According to them, they already shipped first patch of production/show cars to someone this month so it is surprising that nothing happened at NY... they have to surface somewhere :-). Car was sent back to design to improve some minor things (interior? dunno) so that set it back for few months, but thats behind and it is ready to ship this late summer... One thing we know is that it has leather wrapped dash for at least some models (like CT200h for instance). :-) |
quite possibly they might not know how will tsunami affect model launch so they delayed the introduction... it would be really bad to launch Camry but have no cars to sell.

Would be nice if they made an announcement stating that. Well, too bad. With the Altima passing Camry in sales last month,Sonata gaining market share and the Accord, they need a new Camry fast. |
As I understand (directly from the horse's mouth, per se), when Toyota showed dealers the 2012 Camry, they were not impressed and told Toyota to go back to the drawing board. If what I've heard is right, the front and rear ends of the car were not immediately discernible as "all new" from the current car. A few more tweaks to the headlights, grille, bumpers and tail lights were mentioned as ways to change the appearance, but pushed the launch of the car back a few months.
I also heard that it was to debut in NY but that was before dealers gave the car poor reviews and said, "This won't work," sending Toyota back for changes. |

If you're going to the NY Show and have a digital camera, Joeb, could you get a few shots of the new Impreza (and the interior, if Subaru has one out on the floor, unlocked) and post them?
. Will do,Mike. I hope I don't forget.:) |
