Question Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 leaked?

Real or fake?

The never-ending saga of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 continues as this "leaked" image is supposedly the real deal.

We obviously have our doubts, but the picture is probably a close representation of what the production model will look like.

As we have previously reported, the last-hurrah for the 997 will reportedly feature a 4.0-liter engine that develops 500 PS (368 kW / 493 hp) which is 50 PS (37 kW / 49 hp) more than the standard model.

A questionable spec sheet suggested the car could be priced at €179,880 ($255,500) but everything should be taken with a grain of salt.

Also included is a speculative rendering from TeamSpeed.com

Wow 4.0L, some big horsepower (normally aspirated) numbers. Rendering is not good/useful/accurate.

they have been talking about this for a while. Sounds like they want normally aspirated power. 4 liter v6 is HUGE for a V6

It will be a flat 6, as usual.

Bad Rendering, but infos make sense, just common sense, it is a toned down RSR to milk more money from the 997 platform.

Instant collector item!

Alot of big displacement V8's cant match the power this "big" flat 6 produces. From what I've noticed that big displacement engines do not rev as high as lower displacement engines. 3.6 V8 out of a Ferrari can rev to 8k a 7.0 Chevy will get mid 6's (I know its a push rod engine and that limit's it). The N/A 3.8 F6 in the 911 revs till 7.5, will the new one be as rev happy?

woops. I was typing a little to fast and looking at desk work. A flat 6 is really the only way they can realistically get a big motor in the rear of a 911 ( other than the company that shoehorned a v8 into a 911)

Exactly regarding flat 6, fit and CG too.

(And a V8 shoehorned in 911 into back intrudes into passenger compartment, including the rear jump seat area)

Yes, the rendering is terrible, proportions are very wrong.

Certainly the new Beetle is looking a bit more conventional like a sports coupe, less cartoonish and less upright when compared to last version.

A 4.0 is pretty much pushing the limits of the flat-6....which is why there are rumors the 911 could eventually become a V-8 (as Ruf did). There is pretty much nowhere to go after 4.0 liters...

The 911 will stay a flat 6 if doesn't, it'll loose its fan base. Once they cant get anymore steam out of the F6 I think Porsche will start adding hybrid aid's just like they add turbo's.

I feel you but on the other hand they said the same thing about it becoming water cooled and leaving air cooled.
