What is the point of this car with the Genesis?

The new Sonata already appears to be something of a mini-Genesis in its features. If this car has 75% of the features of the Genesis but is within 3-4k of the price, why not just save a bit more and get a Genesis?

Conversely, if this car has 90% of the features a Genesis does yet at a significant savings, what is the point of the Genesis?

All else equal, those long overhangs will help ride quality, but probably degrade the handling. That's because of the lever-effect of having a lot of weight out beyond the 4 wheels.....it dampens the bump-effects of the wheels pushing up under the body over road irregularities, but also mutes and dampens steering input/response. That's one reason why the Lincoln Town Car, a vehicle expressly designed for ride comfort, has such long overhangs. A large trunk is another.....a long rear overhang, if designed correctly, adds to trunk space.

You do have a point. I guess if the Sonata is I-4 only, this will be the V-6 model like an Avalon fighter?

What's the difference? Simple. The Azera has FWD....all else equal, that means better wet-snow traction. The RWD Genesis sedan is designed more to compete with RWD BMW/Mercedes sedans.....which, IMO, it does fairly well, though of course, it lacks the BMW's superb power steering and ride/handling combination. The FWD Azera competes with the Toyota Avalon, Lexus ES350, and Buick Lucerne.....though less with the ES than the other two.

I have to disagree, Mike....at least to some extent. See my post above (#6). I tried to cover the basic differences between the Azera and Genesis (at least as I see them).

I always thought the Genesis was a replacement to the Azera, kinda like how the Genesis coupe replaced the Tiburon???

So did I. Azera sales are down to a little over 200 a month and I thought they might let it go away.

The FWD vs. RWD difference with the Genesis makes sense I guess, if there is a wide enough price gap between the two.

center stack....straight out of Acura's textbook. But does look more tastefully designed.
