And here, the tint is a necessity, IMO. It keeps the interior much cooler, even with rolling my windows down via remote. It also protects it. I definitely prefer the look of tinted windows, too, so it's multiple reasons for me and many other AZ drivers.

I do agree with you though, first thing I do when getting pulled over is to roll down the windows. Surprising that cooperating and being civil can help you out of a ticket.
I chose "all of the above"....though privacy is by far the least concern. My wife gets migranes, made worse with certain light and the tint helps. As well, we have a 95ish lb Husky/Lab/Shep that lives for winter and the snow, so the tint helps keep her, and the vehicles a little cooler.
Our laws allow full tint in the back and 0 from the shoulders forward.
I run 5% in the rears and 50% in the front.

i don't believe the tint i had on a car before made any difference in terms of heat rejection. it was supposed a good quality one too (formula one?). looked great though.

I at least want some basic tint in my car (because it's too hot here in South East Asia).
Btw, I have a question though:
In America, do you guys have rules and regulations with regards to how much tint is allowed?
I ask that because there may be problems within different jurisdictions due to different rules and procedures. For instance, in Singapore, the allowable tint specifications set by the Land Transportation Authority mentions 70% light transmittance in front windscreen and front side windows while its 30% for rear windows. In Malaysia, it's 50% for both.
And that's a problem when one Singaporean driver was arrested for this (when he was actually following specifications). The question was: Since his vehicle was not registered in Malaysia, does he need to follow the specifications there as well?
A lot of Singapore drivers travel and commute to Malaysia on a daily basis (especially to Johor Bahru because housing and prices of goods and services are cheaper). Such is indeed an issue that needs a constructive solution........

Yes in the US the regulations vary by state. And the actual enforcement of the regs (which in US tends to be variable and enforcement often loose) varies by law enforcement jurisdiction or city to city.

yep, tinting filters UV rays but the darker color tends to absorb the heat from the sun and radiate it into the interior.
