I think the interior and exterior design is busy, and doesn't flow well. Ex: the front grille dip and the rear trunk 'cave'

The hood vents (to phrase a term you often use) are something trivial, but in general, IMO it looks much better than its new Sonata cousin, whose styling I'm not impressed with at all. The all-black grille, though, looks a little odd.

You'll probably think THIS is trivial (each opinion is different), but I'd like to see a little wood-tone on the new Optima's dash...the interior, though busy, looks a little cold without it.

That sleek roofline you mention may look racy, but, it the new Sonata, it really hit big-time on rear headroom. I'll withold comment on the Optima's until I sit in it.

(Yes, I use the term "trivial" often when commenting on your responses, not often else btw, but what the heck it's the internet and expected that some sifting through trivia is necessary to get something informational).

I agree on most of your observations above too. But the rear head room thing is overrated on the Sonata, I've checked it out (which I know is subjective, because the published specs are competitive for rear headroom in that car), but the real (factual) proof is the huge sales increase over last gen Sonata.

I can't judge this car till I see it in person...I need to feel the presence.

I'm tall and I don't like the feeling that I am dwarfing the car, I want to feel like the car is bigger than me.

It looks like it could use some bigger wheels, but other than that, it looks pretty good. I kind of see a hint of Accord Coupe in it too.

Agreed, the best sedan effort by Kia so far.

Beautiful exterior design. Great job, Kia. The interior, though, looks like its already 10 years old. Very dated, imo.
