I saw this happen a couple of days ago at a 76 gas station and it reminded me of this thread. It was a middle aged lady washing and drying the entire backside of her Ford Expedition with a sqeegee. I just shook my head.

Yes.
My friend thought he would "help out" my other friend when we were traveling down to FL by "cleaning" his car while fueling up.
I can't even tell you how scratched up his black civic was after that. BAD!
I don't suggest this. lol

A local cheap carwash had just poured "mud" over my dark green Civic, evidently having problems with their "recycled" water. I threw a fit until they washed it again - not with the hose, as I requested, but running it through the "wash" again, making it worse. Finally, before I could stop them, the manager and a half dozen "ragmen" attacked the problem with shop towels and Windex.

The areas they hit were a streaky, hazy mess, only slightly less muddy than what the machinery produced - leaving me to drive two blocks to my usual (expensive) carwash to have it cleaned properly. It took me a weekend of polishing to remove the swirls. No, I refused to pay, but gave them the number of the good wash rack down the street to see if they would split the fee. Good luck with that.
