Default Decision Decision Aston Martin Vantage V8 or MB SL55

Decision Decision: I need a little help on which car I should purchase. In the past 8 years I have own a Lexus GS/ACURA NSX/MB CL500 and currently a CLS500. My warranty on my CLS500 has expired so I guess it’s time to upgrade again. To be very honest my CLS500 has been awesome only 3 to 4 problems in the past 3 years. Congratulations to MB for improving. But it’s time for me to go back to driving a coupe. I have narrowed it down to the 2007 Aston Vantage V8 and 2007 MB SL55.

My 2 criteria are I hate to say it is ballin and price I’m trying to stay below 68k. Let me know what you think?

Aston Martin any color the SL55 must be white.

Drive them both.

Decide for yourself.

Asking a forum about which car to buy is like asking your best friends to select the right girlfriend for you - their personal biases and preferences will influence their choice and these might not be what you're looking for.

True! But in this case it's a little different. Because I only have 2 criteria’s.

For example; if someone asks you which girl looks the best?
Which is really what I’m asking? Which car do you lust for more out of the 2 cars? Of course I make the final decision but your opinion count since I told you what type of girl I like.

Well, both cars are gorgeous in their own right. I would have a hard time deciding which one to select, but then again I'm not really the target market for these cars.

The Aston Martin Vantage V8 is probably more exclusive and perhaps aesthetically more classy and unique as it can be claimed the design is an evolution of past Aston Martin's. No offense, though, but the Vantage is my least favorite Aston Martin. Compared to its bigger, sleeker and graceful brothers, it appears "short and fat" in comparison.

I suspect the SL55 AMG will drive better than the V8 Vantage, both dynamically and in terms of overall comfort, although "comfort" is a highly subjective issue. Those few times I've had the pleasure of hearing an SL55 AMG, my skin always got the bumps because that engine sound was just so amazing - still is. I do prefer the headlight styling of the original current SL (to which the SL55 AMG belongs) to that of the facelifted variants with those weird headlights.

Again, take them both out for a long spin, then decide.

If it were my money? The Vantage. It's a much sexier car by far. Plus, if your concerned about "ballin", everyone has an SL of some sort. Don't see nearly as many Astons floating around (at least around here).

Same reason I bought my IS-300 over a used 3-Series. When I park in a lot, I'm not beside ten of the exact same car....

Vantage would be my choice as a weekend toy.

But if you're gonna drive it more often, the SL may be more reliable.

(I can't believe I just called a Mercedes "reliable"... )

This car will definately be a weekend car. Unless I have a special lady to take out during the week.

aston hands down. SL's are nice and all but they are a dime a dozen. Aston looks way better too.

07 Vantages... beware... get meticulous service records... if clean, I'd take it any day over the SL, unless a daily driver

If it's an 08+... Aston 10 out of 10 times no matter daily or weekend!!!

Btw- these have been in my "final mix" and have I played them against each other for a while. FWIW, I have been looking at 2 SL55 AMGs (07 in 60s w/ 10K miles, 08 upper 70s w/ 15K miles)... and a 05 DB9 (13K miles) for $80K... just waiting for an "event" to occur to pull the trigger if they are still available. My guy is also looking for a newer (08+) Vantage roadster.

The service records on the DB9 are prefect...
