I think Honda topped themselves with the Integ - I wasn't a fan of them since I saw them as the stereotypical Asian car but boy oh boy they handle very well. Hell, anything Honda made back in the 1990s were some of the best they made - especially the older Legends and Accords.

I miss those days of yore when the Japaneese made awesome cars, MR2, Rx7, Supra, ITR.... they just don't make em like they used to.

Sure, but the current STi isn't quite as edgy as the previous versions and the 370Z has strayed from its origins in a major way. The Evo has, no pun intended, evolved the best. It was always a little pricey and complicated, but yet some still complain it isn't as fun and raw as it used to be.

This article proves that perhaps there has been too much refinement and complexity (not to mention cost...cough 370Z) introduced into this segment over the years.

All these companies need to get back to basics more or less. Ironically, it seems that Toyota/Subaru are the ones who are the most serious about doing so. I have to give Mazda a ton of credit for stick with the MX-5 formula, and the RX-8 is a worthy car.

But it really just isn't the same. They really don't build them like they used to. These cars are still impressive and fun, but a different kind of fun. This goes for other carmakers too. For example, in terms of packaging and performance and pure "fun to drive", the closest thing BMW currently offers to the very original M3 is the 128i coupe with the M-Sport package.

Great article.

Cars definitely don't have that raw, visceral feel these days. Every bit of feel is now translated through a chip in one form or another.

Love my IS-300, but that article makes me long for my old 88 CRX or 95 Miata R. No traction control, power steering, electronic throttle, or plush suspension. Just stripped down, raw, mechanical user interface. Guess those days are gone, when it comes to budget performance on the showroom floor.

Great article.. The Integra type R is a special car that we will never see anything like it ever again. I feel, maybe 20 years from now, a pristine stock, clean title example will be a $100,000 dollar car. not bad for a front drive honda hatchback.

I had a 350Z sold it in 6 mo's, just felt fat, unconnected, and not as tossable as the cars I mentioned. Maybe an STI is better, never liked the looks.

Couldn't hold a candle to my MR2.

Great article! My friend managed to find a near stock ITR (It has the gunmetal wheels from the yellow car instead of the white ones and had a new factory seats because it had been broken into before and the seats were stripped). Unfortunately, he totalled it

Not in my experience. I guess I was lucky to be there at the right time.

The real question should be.... how hard is it to keep it from thieves? All my buddies with TypeR were either had theirs vandalized or stolen. I sold mine and within a month I got a police report saying that it was stolen and stripped. The buyer did not even have a chance to register it.
