Default Toyota Bankruptcy?

I was just watching Fox Business Channel this afternoon and one of the topics was whether Toyota will follow GM into bankruptcy. Apparently some of GM's problems are ******* Toyota. According to a guest commentator (Lou Ann Hammond from carlist.com) Toyota a year and a half ago started to cut back on R&D. According to the host, they have scaled back their sales projections from 15 million to 9 million.

Maybe we'll be seeing some really great deals in the coming year. I just can't imagine my 2007 LS460 qualifying for a Cash For Clunkers Program though!

I highly doubt that the closure of the NUMMI plant where the Matrix and (don't quote me on this one though) Prius are made will bring Toyota closer to bankruptcy. In any case, this is old news and imho...

This will actually help Toyota avoid bankruptcy...Toyota has way too much capacity in North America and closing these underperforming plants will only help Toyota.

I believe there is one plant in Mississipi that is sitting idle. There is no tooling or anything in the building as Toyota has no idea what to do with it. The closing of the NUMMI plant was no-brainer and had to be done. Now Toyota has shift the Corolla production to Canada and back to Japan as well...their plants will now be operating on a third shift....that is what needs to be done.

Toyota also is moving Taco production to San Antonio...The texas plant will now have two shifts...but will still be behind in capacity

Toyota had so much cash reserve I don't think losing money for a year or two will deplete it just yet.

Toyota is well capitalized and will not be filing for chapter 7, 11, or 13 bankruptcy...

When you failed, the only way to make yourself feel better is to talk trash about other people and hope they will also fail

I dont see it. Toyota will not go under. We all saw the GM drama coming years in advance. I dont think the signs are as ominous

Toyota just got through selling twenty zillion Camrys, Corollas, and Pruises. They have plenty of cash and reserve. This whole idea is pure BS.

Nummi plant is so damn expensive to operate because its in cali: hostile taxes, hostile environmental regulations, union presence, high cost of everything. Of course they want to close that one. They will just shift that production elsewhere, they have plenty of capacity.

Very true. Toyota is the big dog (think rottweiler) and the new GM which is leaner, meaner and has it's tail between it's legs (think Chihuahua). If Toyota wanted to, it could rip the head off of GM.

WTF? 20+ years of profitability in every single quarter and after ONE QUARTER of below-expectations earnings and the closing of a nearly idle plant they're going bankrupt? What the hell is wrong with people?
