Sorry but this thing is a ugly beast in looks, and is very outdated I'm talking like early nineties outdated with only a few current techie tid-bits. You take the Mercedes name off this thing and it will be exactly what it is, some old retired military vehicle no one cares about. I'd rather have an old Bronco....

Its like calling a tank ugly, don't look at it as a leather lined mall cruiser based on a car body like the rx350, you need to look at it as a military vehicle turned into a luxury panzer tank and if you look at it that way, its great. I would drive this car anyday anywhere and love it. Other people can keep their escalades and navigators, this is the best......with the range rover cayenne and lx of course haha

Always love the g wagon because of thier classic look and presence on the road. As being call outdated, it has the same look when builted 30yrs ago. By the way, i love so much i bought one..

I personally love the G Wagen. It was a strong debate between getting my Range Rover Supercharged or the G Wagen. I just decided on the RR because of the features and the high price of the G55, which was the only one I wanted.
I think the look is timeless, the tech...not so much.

For you guys who have not seen or examined the G-Wagen (Gelandewagen, in German-speak), it is literally tank-solid. Its sheet metal, bank-vault-like door closings, and much of its hardware cannot be matched by anything else still on sale in the American market....especially now that the Hummer H1 is gone. (Though neither myself nor 1SICKLEX ever wrote up a formal G-Wagen review, he basically agrees with me on the build solidness). It has three locking differentials underneath for tough off-road stuff.
The G-Wagen, of all the M-B products still sold today, is the only M-B product that still brings back the memories of what M-B products were like 20-25 years ago, before they started their long slide downhill in quality, solidness, and reliability. Part of that, of course, is because the G-Wagon is a military-derived vehicle, and needs to hold up under difficult conditions.
