Post 2010 E-class Estate

The all-new Mercedes Benz E-Class has now reached showrooms in most parts of the globe, and now we are just a couple of months away from the launch of the ‘Estate’ wagon version. A number of prototypes for the Estate have been spotted near the Mercedes’ headquarters in Germany, revealing the final shape of the car with only the finer details being masked by black camouflage material.

However, now official images have been leaked courtesy of AutoBild. Mercedes has previously confirmed that the wagon will make its world debut at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show before going on sale in Europe by the end of the year. A North American launch is expected shortly after.

Looking at the latest shots, we can clearly see the design of the grille and some details on the tail-lights and rear hatch. As expected, the design for the dash has been lifted straight out of the sedan.

Like the sedan, the range of engines available for the new wagon will comprise four, six and eight-cylinder units with outputs from 100 kW/136 hp to 386 kW/525 hp – the top end model being the E63 from AMG. The four-cylinder engines are newly developed direct-injection units, which develop a higher output and torque than the comparable V6-engines of the preceding series despite a smaller displacement.

The top model in the new E-Class diesel range is the six-cylinder E350 CDI with an output of 170 kW/231 hp, which uses 0.5L per 100km less fuel than the previous E320 CDI.

Along with the debut of the new wagon, Mercedes will also be launching two new engines for the E-Class range under the E200 CGI and E200 CDI guises.

I prefer the C wagon over the GLK. Also have always liked Audi and BMW wagons over their cute ute counterparts. Too bad they don't sell better in the U.S.

I think this car will look better than the sedan. Wagons usually do in my opinion.

Check out the trunk capacity on this thing once the rear seats are folded down.

I like it. However, will we see any of those powerplants other than the typical V6 and V8? Probably not. Maybe the 350 CDI.

I like the wagons, but not as much as the sedans. And Mercedes and BMW have trouble getting sales traction in the US with these wagons.

I just don't understand it. A wagon is so much more appealing than an SUV or CUV. The people who can afford these things grew up with wagons. Why don't they buy em? ...Of course I wouldn't buy a minivan.

how so? many prefer the higher seating position of the suv/cuv.

suv's have been around since the 80's so most buyers know both well, and probably know suvs better since there's so few wagons/estates available.

Perhaps I'm the minority, but I don't like being up high like that. It feels unstable and top heavy to me. Though our 400h is certainly a more stable vehicle than the first gen RX. However, I hate vehicles like the 4Runner.

And you hit the nail on the head. Many people have the same distaste for wagons as they do minivans in the US.

Of course there are the other attributes of an SUV that many find appealing, including me for certain conditions.

I'm sorry, but this is the stupidest design to squeeze in 2 more passengers.
A child is already traumatized in a rear ender collision facing forward.
I can't imagine a child seeing a honking suv plowing into the back of their car, (with back window shattering in their face)

Back on topic: those rear taillights seem to work perfect for the wagons than the sedans
