I know its been 8 years...but give the guy a break...its the anniversary of his fathers death. Wouldnt you be a little off too? Especially being at the same track, doing the same thing your father was doing when he died... Gotta be hard for the guy. Yet he feels compelled to race just to keep his father's memory alive, although he doesnt have to.
For those who are curious...Here is just a fraction of my DE collection:
^front and back of T-shirt purchased at "Daddy's" Daytona. Didnt have the opportunity to have it signed by him. Wished I did though . Farbeit for be to think ANYTHING like that would happen that day.
^Front and back of the jacket given to my dad (and then to me) By Mr Earnhardt.
Just a handful of my other collectibles. Inside the cardboard box is a Diecast collectible. I have never opened it.

They sell NASCAR stuff at walmart now ( alot of it actually). It makes it easy to be a fan. where can I find GT collectibles??? It would be easier if I was a NASCAR fan
Yes they do, but the genuine stuff (like above) is ALOT harder to get ahold of. Sure the clock and Lunch cooler are at every turn, I have them just to have them really. But the Jacket, the shirts, the cars, THE PLAQUE, and alot of the stuff my family has is just simply Genuine. It is sad some stuff has been downplayed to walmart quality. But such is life i guess.

Why does it matter where you buy your support??
The Real Genuine NASCAR models start at about $85.00 for rookie drivers, and will increase in price for certain drivers/paint jobs. The cars you buy at Walmart cost about $20.
I have seen GT cars at Walmart before... They are $5 more that the "Winners Circle" Generic brand Nascar models.
AND the lack of GT model cars/merchandise at Walmart could be simply that it's not as Popular as NASCAR in America. It's simple economics, IF Walmart wants to maximize profits, they sell ONLY goods that people will buy alot of. This allows them to buy more merchandise in bulk and sell for cheaper prices.
So more fans = more merchandise needed = more profit
I wholeheartedly agree. Not many people I ask would even know what GT or GP or LeMans racing is, Let alone care where to get the Merchandise. On that same token though, Indianapolis IN is TEEEMING with Indy Racing Memoribilia. Really it depends alot on your location. Walmarts in the south will have ALOT more NASCAR merchandise, because thats the fan base that is there.
The end of this year's Daytona 500 sucked, I don't remember seeing a race called for rain so quickly, 20 minutes? Come on.
Not sure what Jr's deal was today, he was off from start to finish and he got away with a big one not being penalized for wrecking half the field.
Appreciate the spoiler bro , I guess I should have told you that the race is sitting on my DVR box, yet to be watched. Had a family emergency I had to take care of yesterday...so I DVR'd It! (In HD 1080p I might add!)
Best believe i am still gonna watch tho!

Jeff Gordon...much as I am not a fan, Is an incredible driver. He is respectful on the track (think opposite tony stewart) and very good at what he does. I dont cheer for him at races, But i do respect the man. Its very hard for me to put into words the way i feel about him as a driver...
I love racing! But...Nascar racing has become anti climatic...Don't get me wrong, it requires so much energy to just travel the way these guys do, let alone actually race week in and week out. Most people haven't a clue...but the hype before each race makes me not want to watch...I want to see racing, not advertising.
I do love the Truck racing. very exciting from a racers stand point. Trucks have less grip and a good mix of young and old drivers, makes for some very exciting racing.
The youngest driver in the sprint cup is 18...the oldest is 50...how is that not a wide enough age bracket?
And yes, the advertising is becoming a bit rediculous. but its alot like the super bowl. Daytona is the super bowl of NASCAR. so of course there will be the beer commercials and the ads for godaddy.com.
Nice to have a NASCAR thread in CL.
About Earnhardt, to a F1 fan it was like losing Senna, he was the sport. Put it another way, Dale SR was a icon, just like basketball fans give refrence to Michael Jordan,( myself included, kobe's good, but he's no MJ) as the best ever and changing the sport, that is the way Dale Earnhardt is viewed by NASCAR fans, there will never be another.
I love all forms of racing, but the absolute best is NASCAR on the road courses,( and yes these driver's are great at this type of racing), there needs to be more road courses! Racing on the short tracks is exciting as well.
As for Tony Stewart, I am a fan of his, because he drives all diffrent types of cars( IRL, sprints, sports cars etc..), and speaks his mind, and in today's PC world that is very rare.
As far as the NASCAR tracks go I'll rate the excitement factor as followed:
1. short tracks
2. road tracks
3. 1.5-mile tracks
4. Daytona/Talladega
5. Other super speed ways like Michigan and Fontana (especially with the new car)
and there is...
6. Ponoco - the track is so boring it is truly in a league of its own.

My bad man, I assumed everyone in the thread had already seen the race, btw how did you record in 1080P?
