So what happens if the Big 3 DO fail????
Spoke with a GM dealership owner (30 years in our town) at lunch while checking out some Vettes. He says he's been assured the gov't, no matter the type of bankruptcy, will allocate funds to honor any warranties regardless of what happens. I said, "What if they don't? What if the new "owner" doesn't want to honor these warranties?" Said he'd honor them even if they didn't sell the line any longer. I said, "With all respect, if you and GM go under, that's worth about nothing". He said, " As far as Chevy goes, don't worry."
Interesting.....
Interesting.....
but I have seen too many companys' make great claims for what they will do right up until you pick up the paper and read they are in bankruptcy. And no one is answering the phone. But I do agree, the gov (as in you and I) will stand behind their warranty's. But the time delay should the worst happen between the bankruptcy and the availability of the warranty bailout could seem really long if you are saddled with one of their dogs. Just a sad situation and not one that I want to get near to in anything I am going to own personally.
I'm also a little bit interested in the dealer's comments. Our papers have been full of reports of how GFC dealers have been laying off people this year, including in the service department. Have GFC vehicles gotten so reliable that they didn't need thse service people to provide the warranty work on the vehicles they have sold over the past five years?

But deferred maintenance and Jiffy Lube-type operations have taken much of the GFC service business lately, especially in leaner times.
I guess you don't actually know very many people with GFC cars. With a relatives experience with a Corvette, my opinion is there aren't any Chevy dealerships that can afford to cut any service "technicians". As for Jiffy Lube, well people get what they pay for.
Corvette is hardly the mainstream GM car, those customers will just have to deal with it, so sad. btw- I had a 2006 GM product for 2.5 years and fortunately I sold it 6 months before my dealer closed, next nearest dealer would be 35 miles away.
Agreed, Jiffy Lube is what it is, maybe they consider their GFC cars to be disposable.
