Mercedes-Benz S-Class facelift caught undisguised
http://www.motorauthority.com/....html
he current generation Mercedes Benz S Class has been on the market since 2005 and is due to receive a minor update next year to keep it fresh for its rivalry with the all-new BMW 7-series on sale at the end of the year and next-generation Audi A8 arriving in 2010. Recent prototypes seen testing in Germany and the United States reveal that the only major exterior updates for the car are a set of new bumpers and a revised combination projector/LED design for the headlights, which were previously obscured by camouflage.
Mercedes plans to launch an array of new technologies in both the facelifted S-Class and the next-generation E-Class range. New LED headlights, shown clearly in the most recent photographs of the white S-Class in the gallery below, will be among the updates. The thin strip of LEDs serves to give the front end of the car a more modern look without spoiling the car's reserved lines with a garish grille or extra-large intakes.
Some of the other new features were previewed recently at an event in Leipzig, including driver assistance systems, advanced radar and camera based sensing technology, intelligent situational awareness software, and electronic crumple zones. The new SPLITVIEW system revealed yesterday will also be part of the facelifted S-Class's option list.
As for the new car’s powertrain lineup, most engine options will likely remain the same, but there will be a few new models. In addition to the aforementioned petrol-electric S400, there will be a new 2.1L S250 CDI turbodiesel for Europe, and a 3.5L S350 CGI petrol V6 as well.
The updated car will also get a slightly revised grille with fewer slats than the current car, new projectors in the headlamps, LED rear taillights, and circular fog lights integrated into a re-styled front bumper.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say they should have just left it alone. Okay, so LED's are cool, but this is not an Audi and I much liked the body colored stripes over the rear tail lights, it was unique. A well. If I were shopping for this stye car, it would still be my number one choice.
