so i'm in the market for a truck and originally i was interested in toyota tacoma's but after finding out what they want for them i asked my self why the heck am i gonna pay 25 almost 30k for a midsized truck when i can get a full size chevy or ford for like almost 10k less!!?!?!? am i missing something here? i know they are hurting badly and their truck sales are tanking but seriously why are toyota prices way more?
Perhaps Toyota's Tacoma is priced high because it doesn't have much competition as smaller trucks go?
Anyway, we have an '04 F-150 (first year of the new style, although next year a major re-design hits). We have the super cab (reverse mini rear doors) and the FX4 package (it's an off road package, not that we do that, but the beefier components we wanted because we tow a horse tailer now and then).
It has been absolutely awesome. It's smooth, surprisingly quiet on the highway, strong as an ox and stiff as can be. Downsides... huge to take into shopping parking lots.
We had a Line-X spray in liner put in - highly recommended.
But yes, Ford is hurting HUGELY so you could pretty much name your price I'm sure.
what about a diesel truck? they're practically giving them away i hear from my friends on the cummins forum. you coudl then run biodiesel if you hook up with the right people. i run bio at $1/gallon in my dodge.
there is no reason to by a old small block chevy or forD truck( most new quarter ton trucks have 350s). in my opinion mini trucks and turbo diesel are the way to do. turbo diesels get great gas mileage and have a HUGE HP/TQ potential. Mini trucks get great gas mileage liek the diesel and if you dont have anything large to tow (5th wheel) then the mini truck can handle it. new toyota mini truck tow just as much as Nissan titan, chevy silverado, and the f150.
P.S i have a 16-19mpg duramax that at the flip of a switch has 1200 Foot pounds. i tow a 30,000 pound trailer at 14-16mpg

It depends on your wants and needs. Large trucks are offering killer discounts. You can get a 2008 RAM for 50% off, since the 2009 has arrived.
A new F150 arrives next year as well.
THe Tundra has tons of rebates. The Tacoma is best selling in class.
unless you get a used one, the new ones run for 40k+ my pop has one and it has plenty of power and 25mpg higway at 85-60mph . bullet proof mercedes diesel engine he has 140k on his van, what he had replaced was injectors, egr, misc sencors i.e turbo boost solenoid) his is on dualy's too so it can haul.
