Default Underhood light (bean counters please don't read)

I was just wondering if anyone knows of any production cars that still have an underhood lamp?

None I'm aware of, and I miss them. Ford had one of those "better ideas" a while back that featured a rechargeable portable underhood light for their pickups, but sadly, it's gone. Here's an idea that might help. . .

My wife bought a basket-load of these a couple of years and a few hurricanes back . . . laid on flat surfaces or hung with double-sided foam tape, they don't amount to much, but in the dark, they're better than nothing. About thaaaaaat much.

Answer to OP: None.

However, there is a group buy for LED flashlights in our Vendor Marketplace Forum...

Ridiculous discount on HID Flashlights from MobileHID!

Our '66 Toyota Corona had a small trouble light that plugged into a socket in glove box and the cord was long enough to easily reach the engine. Very tidy when packed in its carrying case. Cool feature and I used it frequently.

I guess with all the plastic wrap in the engine bay that hide the engine components have made this feature useless since you can't actually work on your own engine anymore.

Good point, if we looked under the hood we wouldn't know what we were looing at and if we did we wouldn't know what to do to fix it

The groupbuy has been over for a month now

And plus they're HID. Not too fond of HID flashlights myself

The under the hood lamp is ineffective. It's a great idea if you only want to see what's on the surface. Need to find out where your leak is coming from? Or do you need to check the dipstick? What you need is a flashlight. It's a good idea to do away with these underhood lights for the manufacturers. They're basically eating up cost. Keep a flashlight in your car.

Buy one of those camping headlamps. I use an LED one to check my paint and when I work on the engine/lights. It keeps my hands free to work

Also I would recommend those worklights you can strap to your forehead, hands-free.

I keep a windup flashlight in the car; never stuck with a dead flashlight.

A few years ago most GM vehicles had underhood lights I am not sure if they still do. Dealerships don't want you to open your hood they want you to make an appointment
