Default Is there something seriously wrong at Toyota?

Is there something seriously wrong at Toyota? A number of recent events have made me question whether there is something wrong.

1. 37 year veteran of Toyota Jim Press leaves for Chyrsler
2. seven straight months of declining sales for Lexus in 2008
3. Consumer reports no longer gives Toyota a free pass a reliability based on previous models.
4. Scions on life support because of low sales
5. Toyota Tundra production idling for 3 months.
6. Toyota Tundra no longer to be produced in Indiana
7. Sequioa sales are a disaster
8. Toyota Corolla takes longer to get to US market
9. Toyota kills the Solara only to now keep it
10. I hear more and more comments about low quality Toyota interiors than ever before
11. Lexus super car now on hold.

Is there something wrong internally with Toyota?

Pagemaster, judging by your numerous threads and replies about the demise of Toyota and how everything they are doing wrong...do you really care what is "wrong" at Toyota? Or are you just starting these threads for the fun of it?

Most of those only prove that Toyota is not immune to the same market conditions which are squeezing nearly everyone right now, both within the auto industry as well as almost every other sector of industry.

I do actually care. I have a Toyota and will likely get another one but I have never seen Toyota in a situation like it is now. Not starting for the fun of it and I mean that.

I guess you haven't looked at GM, Ford or Chrysler lately...

Sensationalized media anyone?

GM/Ford closing Trucks Production plants....irony maybe? (sarcasm)

Ever heard of San Antonio plant?

Slightly incorrect. TM-USA decided against complete revamp and utilized "world model" Corolla. See also Yaris / Echo brands.

There's also rumors about the Supra coming next year...you should pay attention to that too and save all your money accordingly (more sarcasm)

This is what happens when you produce the best, they are courted away with lures of likely bigger money, etc.

2. seven straight months of declining sales for Lexus in 2008

Much of the market is down. Interestingly enough, Lexus can't make enough LX570's to fulfill demand right now.

3. Consumer reports no longer gives Toyota a free pass a reliability based on previous models.

Law of averages. Higher production #'s is going to have some growing pains, but Toyota has recently gone into overdrive to get back on track.

4. Scions on life support because of low sales

They need an influx of new ideas, models, etc. Got kinda "cornered" into calling themselves a youth brand, when in fact, in light of the current economy, their cars are appealing to people of all age groups.

5. Toyota Tundra production idling for 3 months.

What truck plant isn't?

6. Toyota Tundra no longer to be produced in Indiana

But Toyota is one of the only companies with factories flexible enough to quickly adapt to a new line. They will likely fill the capacity at the Indiana plant with another model.

7. Sequioa sales are a disaster

Again, large trucks and SUV's are all down. But the Sequoia is a very competitive product against any of its competitors. If I needed a full size SUV the Sequoia would be at the top of my short list.

8. Toyota Corolla takes longer to get to US market

They wanted to fine tune it against the very impressive Civic. What's wrong with that?

9. Toyota kills the Solara only to now keep it

Rumored to keep the convertible due to demand. I'd say that's great that people want the car that badly.

10. I hear more and more comments about low quality Toyota interiors than ever before

All the new Toyota products now look very impressive to me, starting with the new Highlander, and Land Cruiser, upcoming Venza, etc.

11. Lexus super car now on hold.

Probably more fine tuning to battle the GT-R, ZR1 etc, and also hopefully the economy will be in an upswing by the time i comes out.

FWIW, Sequoia sales are NOT a disaster. I haven't checked recently but know that for the last few months it has been the only full size SUV posting sales GAINS

Just adding to what has already been said, the solara was never mentioned of being canned, it was only a rumor made by edmunds which isn't the best of resources; and the lf-a being delayed, with no release schedule, it's hard to be delayed

Yes numbers are being gained but Toyota forcasted 60k units and will likely sell around 32k. Not all that impressive. Also for a brand new to the market vehicle...idling production tells me its not doing to well because of market conditions and because of design. I think at one time the Seq had a 118 day supply...that might be a Toyota record.

Edmunds rumored that the Solara was going to be canned, Toyota never mentioned anything about it, and they haven't mentioned anything of any cars being canned

do you live in a vacuum or does market dynamics not trigger a lightbulb?

I just said that Toyota is idling production and is not doing well because of market conditions AND the design....If the design was unibody and similar in size to the G class Merc than it would fair a little better.
