Jay Leno's car magazines

On his show last night, he was talking about being a hoarder/packrat and said he had EVERY issue of Road & Track and Car & Driver since he was 15! :eek2:

He's 58 now so let's assume that's 43 years of 2 monthly magazines and he's got a stack of 1032 magazines! That's a lot!

What about you guys, do you keep your magazines? I know 1SICKGOAT does.

I tend to have a backlog but I throw 'em out.

Wow, that must be one amazing collection of car mag memorabilia! 43 years worth!! You'd need a warehouse to store it all.

I used to save them up in big stacks and donate them when I couldn't walk into the room any more.:D Now I give them to my auto-enthusiast friends as I get done reading them. Besides, many of the back-issues are on their websites if you need them.

This is my big problem I horde, magazines. I have magazines going back to 1997, when I first started liking cars. At last count I have over a thousand car magazines and about 200 sports magazines. The ones I get rid of I cut the pictures out of first. I think with the internet age, magazines are not what they used to be, the page count has gone down and the price has gone up. So lets see I have subscrptions to autoweek, car and driver and road and track so the majorty are those. other mags include, motor trend, grassroot motorsports, and dupont registry Next are import mags like sport compact car, turbo, modified etc. Then are the european mags, european car sports car international, forza, bimmer and excellence, etc. the quality of these mags is great. Lastly are corvette and muscle car magazines. So yes it is a addiction. If there was a lexus monthy print magazine I would get that to!

I keep mine until they get in the way & then dump them unless I save for reference in some future project.

i just keep mine till the next new ones comes out then i toss the old

that is too many to keep. I usually keep the last year's issues and then dump them when my wife sweats me about the stack under the dining room table.

My oldest are from August and September of 1979 and are the first C&D and MT I bought. I've slowly thrown out more and more as time goes by trying to hold on to only what I thought are the "interesting" or "important" issues based on the cars I like.

vboy418 Jul 13, 2008 09:50 AM

thats amazing. I use to collect them...

you can reduce space by ripping out all the ad pages.
that would reduce it by 90% :)

my last porn mag was from 10 years ago. i've graduated to the digital age.

i still get free maxim mags and such, but i throw those out within a few days.

mags are chock full of ads these days. 98% crap. 2% substance. with so many ads, ALL mags should be free.

I am a pack rat too with magazines and have a bunch of car mags from about 97 on which is when I was buying alot of car mags, I also have quite a few gun, hunting/fishing, and car mags from the late 80's and early 90's too. I have never counted but I know I have well over a thousand old magazines. Every once in awhile I will throw a few old mags out that were not good but I like to keep the older ones that are still interesting. One thing I wish I did was just have magazine subscriptions when I was younger instead of going out and buying them because I would have an extra grand or two in the bank if I did:p from the money I saved. One of these days I should go through the mags and tear out the ads and crappy car reviews to make more room.
