Sales tax is the same as buying anything else (8.25% for LA County, and pretty close everywhere else)...

to be clear, tax rate is based on your residential address, not the dealership address

to be extra clear, buying the car in CA when you live out of state, you pay the dealership address tax

so future reference for out of stater, go to SD area where it's 7.75%

Thank God they haven't raised it to 8.25% like LA county. I wonder how long that will last?

Time for a road trip to Oregon. lol
Btw I always thought it was 7% tax, at least that was how much it was when I bought a car. Shows how long ago it was.

I believe that if you have the car delivered to another state, you don't have to pay the CA tax.

Not delivered only. If it's titled out of state you won't pay CA tax. Ask anyone in the military whose home of record is out of state and they register in their home state.

Default update

I went down to Honda dealer to talk the prices some more and unfortunelly I have to pay 8.25% tax, but the figure he gave me is more like 10%. He said the other 1.75 is license and fees? Is he just blowing hot smoke trying to make more $$?

So we are getting close to a deal basically it comes down to that license and fee.
Oh another thing they are now adding a "protection package" for $990 to the msrp of all CR-V and guess what that was? 5 floor mats and mud flaps, I grilled him left and right about it from the lot to his desk and finally he said he is going to just throw that in for free. I told him I don't even want it if he pays me to take it.
