The Lexus Experience
Anyway, one of the speakers (I cant remember his name right off) was talking about companies who have dominated their market, far above their competitors. Lexus was one of the companies they used as an example, saying they have blown BMW and other luxury cars out of the water.
They said the reason certain companies like Lexus have been so successful is that they have ignored what their competitors are doing and instead have focused on other successful companies in other industries.
For instance, Lexus knew they had more than just a car. They wanted to create an "experience," so they sent their top executives to spend weeks at the Ritz Carrolton and at other high performing stores like Apple outlets.
He said they focus on the little details (they picked that up from the Ritz) and they created an info bar to learn more about your car's gadgets (they picked that up from the Apple store).
I thought the whole topic was fascinating and I have long been thinking about buying a Lexus. So this looks like the time to check one out.
The 'genius bar' idea was listed in the recent Lexus dealership survey ideas, I'm not sure if that is a brand-new idea for the service experience or an ongoing effort.
