Alpina B7, drove it last week. Its my favorite car. Looks fierce in white with black interior.

Overtaking is a snap. 130 mph is a joke. Still averages 18 mpg. I really want one!!!!!!!

On the subject of **** VIPs, most of them didn't ride around in Maybach cars because they were "too expensive". A Mercedes Benz was seen as more "practical luxury" and they looked menacing enough in black.

Most of the **** elite were chauffeured around sitting in the back of a Mercedes 770 "Großer Mercedes" (yes, 7.7-l straight-8 cylinder engine). Normally a Kompressor-equipped car made between 150-hp (Kompressor off) and 200-horsepower (Kompressor on) but some versions made in excess of 400-horsepower, which was badly needed to move aroundd the heavily armored versions weighing over five tons!

Big fan of 1930s machinery here.

I don't know how important it is for his dad, but the interior of the S600/S65 is considerably better than that of the S63.

Thanks. You sound credible. Most of the sources I have say the **** elite DID have Maybachs, but *****, of course, were notorious for propaganda. The cars you referred to were probably their official state cars; maybe they owned Maybachs privately.

Anyhow, so much for this issue.....let's get back to the best car for his 55-year old dad.

Bmw is changing their 7 series shortly supposedly there should be a re-design in 2009

The difference between the s63 and the s65 is .4 tens of a second in 0-60. The exterior is identical except for the 63 and the 65 badges. The interior of a 65's comes with a wood steering wheel and more wood accents through out the car...basically the interior looks identical to the S600. The S65 is both classy and sporty it's the best of both worlds.. The S63 is all sporty!

The only thing I'm not sure is about is the leather if it is the same on both cars or the 65 comes with a better grade.

Good luck on your choices!

The S63's interior is based on the S550. Pretty much what you see in the S550 is what's in the S63. The S65's interior is based on the S600, meaning leather everywhere and the leather is higher grade too, iirc.

I too have bought my parents new cars over the years, but there is absolutely no reason to feel ashame that you have not done the same. There are millions of other things that you can do for someone to show that you love them and it does not have to be in the form of presents. It's the actions and the thoughts that count.

To the OP. I recommend the LS600h just because there is nothing like it.

Clearly your pops desires a car with a soft suspension and cushy ride. As mmarshall laments, there are very few of these types of cars made today. If the 911 turbo wasn't for him, then perhaps neither are other sporty vehicles.

LS600h

edit: And a big no on the Cayenne. My friend's Cayenne was left running when he was unloading groceries. Thank God he was home and not on the road, and him and his pregnant wife were out of the car. His Cayenne decided to self destruct: Cayenne after less than 5 minutes

After driving it, its pretty damn old school, IMO, compared to new cars
