So Long V8 Cadillacs
The Northstar was a great engine when it came out. Every journal was hailing it as a marvel of engineering. An back then, it most likely was. The only problem that I have heard was the excessive oil consumption. And what do you want, that engine was/is shoehorned in cars that, honestly, are sub par to what we here accept as luxury class vehicles. Caddys are not bad vehicles. i really loved the 1st gen STS when it came out, but GMs quality issues were still very rampant back then; a far cry from the quality improvements they have made in recent years, or so I hear. They have a choice now; to develop 2 different high hp V8s or give one up and focus on one design... reengineering a DOHC V8 would cost them a lot in R&D. I'm actually happy to hear that they are dropping this design. I hope this means more R&D towards the LSx pushrod which, due to the corvette, has been getting a lot of funding anyway. they shoehorned it in the CTS-V, why not just use it in all their V8 cars and issue a retuned, high output version for the V series? I think its a great idea.
Plus, with the LSx being a pushrod, it is shorter and wider in comparison to a similar displacement DOHC engine which would be taller and skinnier. I think those dimensions could translate into sexier front end dimensions...

Camry hybrid? I'd prefer that myself. Now if Toyota would direct inject that 2.4L then I'd be really happy, though I have heard that highway fuel economy can be between 40-45 mpg if you're not a leadfoot. I could do that, probably.
I am really considering a hybrid for myself when they make the new body of the Prius
. This whole gas thing is getting way out of hand, in my opinion.Maybe not a Prius per se, but soon, many of us, like it or not, are going to be driving smaller, higher-mileage vehicles. New CAFE standards and the price of gas is going to dictate it.
Engine Type4.4L Supercharged Northstar V8 SC
Horsepower/Torque469 hp at 6,400 rpm and 439 lb-ft at 3,900 rpm

It's popularity has surpassed this issue to the point where I think a lot of die hards are attracted to it for its quirkiness. That's why the Prius is the poster car for hybrids--its just so recognizable. You just show the world you are part of the cause.
