I am not feeling the Shooting Break. Something about it, doesn't sit right.

The whole "Shooting Brake" body style is absurd IMO, sports car with a hunchback is what I think it looks like. Its no wonder only a few production cars have been made, BMW Z3 coupe, Ferrari FF, and the one that actually kind of looks cool is the Lamborghini Espada.

Also I don't know why Toyota/Subaru hasn't ugraded the engine in the FR-S. For the same money you can get a Camaro or Mustang with your choice of turbo 4 cylinder or V6 engines with 275-330hp. Or Hyundia has the 340hp V6 Genesis for the same $$$.

It wouldn't be hard for them to do, Subaru already has a turbo flat 4 in the WRX along with a more powerful flat six in their larger cars.

I do agree with you on that. One shooting brake you neglected to mention is the Volvo C30 and one of the best selling ever, in my humble opinion.

Toyota/Subaru should really change the engine in the FR-S. It would be killer to have the WRX STI engine inside.

Default Someone Stuffed A Ferrari V8 Into A Toyota 86!

Just when you thought you’ve seen everything, Ryan Tuerck informs us that they are building a Toyota 86 (GT 86 / Scion FR-S in some markets) powered by a Ferrari V8 engine.

Donut Media released a short teaser video showing the empty Toyota GT86 shell getting ready for its heart transplant.

We can spot a full cage accompanied with additional body strengthening so the car can cope not only with the significantly raised horsepower levels but perform as a proper drift weapon we imagine it will be.

As for the engine, the video tells us that it’s a Ferrari’s F136 V8 unit, which has been used in different forms in models like the F430, the California and the 458. Given the GT86’s front-engine layout we are guessing they opted for the 454hp California version which is the only front-mount design we wonder how much time and skill it will take to shoehorn the 458's engine into that engine bay.

Nevertheless this is one of the impressive builds we’ve come across this year and we can’t wait to see (and hear) the finished car.

Default Subaru Details 2017 BRZ Range, Prices Start From $26,315

Subaru of America has announced details of the updated BRZ, which now gains a Performance package and a new limited edition.

Following in the footsteps of its twin, the Toyota 86, the 2017 MY BRZ bears a revised exterior look, with new LED headlights and taillights, redesigned front and rear bumpers and new alloy designs.

Also new is the rear aluminum spoiler in a matching body color and black detailing, with Subaru claiming it imnproves downforce. The chassis has been reinforced behind the strut tower braces and to the transmission cross-member plate and rear wheel housings to increase rigidity.

A set of updated coil springs and dampers are also installed as well as a fatter rear stabilizer bar. Subaru says that the thresholds of the stability system are now raised to allow drivers experience more of the BRZ’s improved handling. There is no “Sport” mode anymore as the company changed the name to “Track”.

The 2.0-litre flat-four now churns out 205 HP and 156 lb-ft of torque in models fitted with the six-speed manual gearbox thanks to a new aluminum intake manifold and a redesigned exhaust manifold that increases the air flow. Subaru has also installed a lower final ratio from 4.1 to 4.3:1 paired with a standard Torsen limited-slip differential to improve acceleration on manual models.

The company also offers an optional Performance package for those demanding even more from their BRZ. The package consists of upgraded Brembo brakes with four-piston calipers on the front and dual-piston calipers on the rear. A set of Sachs Performance shock absorbers is also included while the package is completed with unique 17in alloy wheels. The package is priced at $1,195 which represents really good value.

Subaru will offer the 2017 BRZ in two trims, Premium and Limited. Prices start from $26,315 for Premium models with the Limited ones starting at $28,465. The company will also offer the limited-to-500-units Series.Yellow edition which is based on the Premium models with the Performance package.

Finished in a striking yellow paint with 17in black alloys, the new limited BRZ offers black leather and Alcantara upholstery with yellow stitching throughout the interior for the price of $30,515.

The first cars are expected to arrive at retailers this September, with the Performance-equipped and Series.Yellow models to arrive in early 2017.

Default Aussie Tuning Shop Creating Nissan GT-R Powered Toyota 86

A Ferrari-engined Toyota 86 may be coming to life in the U.S., but down in Australia, a bat-**** crazy 86 with the engine from a Nissan GT-R has just been built and promises to be the world's ultimate Toyota sports car.

The car in question started life as a standard 86 and was first installed with a widebody kit from Rocket Bunny. It was then turbocharged and later, fitted with a complete twin-charger kit incorporating both a turbo and supercharger. After being maxxed out at 545 hp, the decision was made to replace the 2.0-liter four-cylinder with the engine from an R35-generation GT-R.

Not satisfied with the almost 600 hp of the standard GT-R, a fully-built 4.1-liter GT-R engine was selected with the GT1000 HKS Symmetrical turbocharger kit, resulting in a total of 1000 hp.

In order to get the engine to fit in the 86's small front end, the front differential was removed and a RWD-only dry sump installed. The GT-R's transmission was modified accordingly with a bespoke bell housing and an air-powered paddle shifter kit courtesy of Motec.

The project is still going and will eventually include an 8.8-inch Ford Mustang differential.

Meager horsepower bump aside... the Performance Package makes the BRZ that much closer to perfect in stock form with a 4.30:1 final drive and factory Brembo brakes (probably only slightly re-engineered from the WRX STI parts bin). Those are the first two things I'd have had done to a used FR-S or BRZ.

I hope Toyota offers an identical package on their 2017 GT86 although the USA-spec front bumper for the Toyota version looks utterly horrible. A lot of people will be swapping over Scion FR-S front bumpers to bring the styling back into line.

Default Kuhl Racing Makes The Bland Toyota 86 Look Extraordinary

In the world of tuning where companies just slap on random bodykits and wheels to cars, Japan's Kuhl Racing is a welcome relief.

Earlier in the year, the company released what is arguably the craziest R35-generation Nissan GT-R ever conceived. While its chrome gold finish was a bit on the overkill side, its bespoke bodykit was a rolling work of art, incorporating a fascinating hand-engraved design.

Fast forward nine months and Kuhl is back at it with another Japanese favorite, theToyota 86.

Like its GT-R sibling, the rear-drive sports car has been fitted with a bespoke widebody kit. It incorporates both flared wheel arches at the front and rear, distinctive side skirts and a custom front fascia with a new grille, bespoke fog lights and different cooling ducts.

At the rear, Kuhl's kit includes a carbon fiber wing, a new bumper/diffuser package and a titanium exhaust system, inspired by company's exhaust for the GT-R.

To finish off the design, a complex pattern has been painted across the hood in conjunction with the candy apple red paint.

Default Japan Gets 2017 Subaru BRZ GT Range-Topper

Another Subaru that won’t be making it over to North America? Well, yes and no.

You see, what Japan gets as the range-topping version of the updated BRZ in the form of the new GT, we get in the States as the optional ‘Performance Package’ priced at $1,195 on the manual Limited model only.

In Japan, however, the new BRZ GT can be had as a separate trim with either a 6-speed manual gearbox that starts at 3,315,600 Yen ($31,900) or a 6-speed automatic from 3,375,000 Yen ($32,500), both paired to a standard 2.0-liter boxer engine.

As with the ‘Performance Package’ in the US, the GT trim adds Sachs dampers that are claimed to provide a more composed ride and better control while cornering, larger front and rear brakes with Brembo calipers for improved stopping power and greater fade resistance, and black painted 17-inch aluminum wheels.

The Alcantara and leather seats, the front heated, and a dedicated rear spoiler round out the BRZ GT’s upgrades.

The facelifted BRZ was announced in Japan in July, with the automaker releasing a special edition named “GT Yellow” with the same performance features, plus an exclusive yellow paint and interior décor, limited to 100 units, all of which have since been spoken for.
