Default Altima Hybrid?

Apparently only sold in 8 states, but anyone seen a review or know what it's like?

Here's an article on it.

Did Nissan buy Toyota's technology or build their own?

Is this their only hybrid?

Toyota's technology, and AFAIK, their only hybrid on the market.

In 2002, Nissan signed an agreement with Toyota to produce 100,000 vehicles over 5 years using Toyota's transaxle, inverter, battery and control unit. The electric motor and gasoline engine will be manufactured by Nissan. The Altima Hybrid will use its own 175 hp DOHC 2.5-liter gasoline-powered 4-cylinder engine combined with a high-torque 100 hp electric motor to produce a high-performance green mean machine.

Looks like it.

I've seen a couple in Philly already. They arent sold in PA, but are sold across the bridge in NJ. Looks exactly the same as the other Altima models except it has a spoiler and a hybrid badge.

Apparently, it gets slightly better gas mileage in the city than the Camry Hybrid, although the Camry get slightly better highway miles. So sick of the high gas prices, I'm almost ready to trade my GS in for either one of them.

Too bad they don't make an Altima Coupe Hybrid yet, though. If they did, it would make it even more tempting to trade in my thirsty GS.

So, it's the first gen Prius technology with a new Nissan engine?

I was searching for the old article saying how Ghosn didn't think Nissan needed to have a hybrid. I only came up with this:

I've been told (don't know how credible) by Lexus sales people that the Altima Hybrid is Toyota's 1st or 2nd gen Synergy drive. Toyota is currently on their 5th gen Synergy drive technology. Why anyone would buy it (if it were true) is beyond me.

Yeah I also heard it was the THS system.. but then no way can the THS system produce this much power. It has to the HSD system (b/c of the more powerful electric motors and battery).

Note that the HSD system is different for the Prius vs. TCH/HiHy/RXh/GSh/LSh.
