A Poor man’s Audi A5: VW four-door coupe coming in May 200
Posted on: July 2nd, 2007
As we’ve reported before, Volkswagen is working with sister brand Audi on a new four-door coupe, internally known as the CC or I/O 511. According to Automobilvoche, Volkswagen is set to release the new four-door coupe in the middle of May 2008 with a pricing strategy that will avoid for the car to be positioned to close to the Audi A5. In other words, a poor man’s Audi A5.
The entry level model will be powered by a 1.8 TSI engine producing 160 horsepower and is priced at 30,000 euros. The 2.0 liter turbodiesel with Common Rail technology will produce 140 horsepower with pricing set at 32,000 euros. The range topper will be powered by a V6 FSI with all-wheel-drive producing 300 horsepower, priced at 40,000 euros.
With a length of the four-door coupe Volkswagen measuring nearly 4.90 meters, the car will most likely use the platform of the Audi A6.
The four-door coupe Volkswagen is said to make its debut at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show with sales to begin in May. No word on US debut.

The Audi S5 is one hell of a beast to look at and from reviews - also one to drive.
This new VW actually looks real good from this rendering and I am content this will sell very well for the brand.
Witht his said, i still believe VW does well differentiating their products with those from the Audi division.
Design wise my opinion is that their designs are more different than any other parent/subsidy automotive corporations (toyota/lexus and honda/acura, and Nissan/Infiniti)...there more some similarities in design styling with these parent/subsidy brands as compared to the VW/Audi parent/subsidy.
just my two cents.

I think the comparison to the Audi A5 is because VW is trying to say this is a 4-Door "COUPE". I personally don't believe in the 4-Door Coupe branding even if it were the CLS, but this is just all marketing talk.
Over all though it is a nice looking car, but it is no coupe.
