Sienna versus Odyssey
II didn't have any major problems with the Honda, but did have recurring problems with the power sliding doors which the dealer was not able to fix. They would fix but then a few months later they'd stop working. But even when they stoped working it was only an intermitent problem.
That has been taken care of on more recent Odysseys, in the last few years....Honda now uses a much better factory-designed one.
I've driven the Oddy and the Sienna, and they both ride and handle like a bowl of watery jello. There's nothing harsh about it at all.
She was doing 50-60 MPH, basically ran into a brick wall, and your dog landed up front without being hurt?
That doesn't compute. He would've been thrown right though the front windshield, and your mom probably would've had significant injuries about the legs, chest, and face. 60 MPH crash is like falling face first off a 12-story building (140 ft) (http://www.exo.net/~pauld/books/car_...r_science.html). The impact systems in todays cars are good, but they're not that good.
A year ago, my mom T- boned an Armored truck at 50- 60mph. Yes, I said 50-60mph and an Armored truck(you know the box trucks that carry money). She ran a red light and SMACK, the front of her mini-van hit the side of the truck dead on. The front of her mini-van looked completely flat. As if there was never an engine. She unbuckled her seatbelt and walked away. Not a single scratch on her
Oh and my 110 lb yellow lab was in the back sitting on the 2nd row seats, he landed up front. He was completly fine, just won't ever get in the car with my mom again.

Now, if you are a real handling fan and don't care much about ride comfort at all, even the Odyssey's raid will seem mushy to you.
It's relative, ff. In general, the Odyssey's ride IS a little stiffer than the Sienna's. This goes in line, not surprisingly, with the two platforms they are each based on.....the Accord/Odyssey platform being slightly more biased toward handling and the Camry/Sienna platform more toward comfort.

My wife and I own an 03' Ody. It currently is still under Honda-care warranty. We have had no major issues with it at all. It's currently got 60,xxx and still going strong. Not to mention the thing screams on WOT! I know it's a van, but dang
We didn't drive the Sienna at all prior to purchasing the Ody. I do have to say though, the styling in the Sienna seems to be slightly more luxurious on the interior.

We have a 93 previa dx with 180k that we use for hauling and that thing still runs strong
I don't think the previa have anthing much to do with the sienna though
So being familiar with the toyota minivan, off course our next one was the sienna. BTW, I don't like that last gen body, too small for minivan and I thought that was a dissapointment.
Grandpa bought an 06 LE (see sig
). NOTHING beats a minivan for cargo, people moving and convenience.Maybe it's not fair to compare, but my sister's 01 civic lx with some of the door panels are coming loose, door seems not to close tight, other little annoyances made us not choose another honda product. My 'ol 95 corolla with 130k held up much better than that-everything intact.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the oddysey has a middle bench seat?
I looked inside the regular and touring version and none had the bench, which I like to have as an extra passenger seat and to put the baby seat in the middle and the reason not to get a Sienna XLE.IMO, the odyssey is better looking than the sienna.
If you get a sienna, there's a mod to turn on your daytime running light.
2nd mod:thumbup, save your gs shift ****:

We own a 99 and we absolutely love it. No problems other than the sliding door problem which is caused by the latch mechanism which "sucks in" the door. Easily replaceable at $110.00 (part only) per unit. I've had both go out in '06 and replaced them with the newer units and no problem.
We're now looking on a new minivan and it will most likely be an Odyssey. We've tried the Sienna's & Quest's, but love the ride, comfort, fit & design of the Odyssey better than all of the rest. I've been a Honda owner for over 13 years and NEVER had one in the shop for a major mechanical problem. The only reason i'd consider a Toyota Sienna is to keep the same manufacturer in the garage.
I'm 99.999999999999999% sure i'll be a Honda owner for life.
